It took me a long time to decide whether or not I should try this place. Honestly, from outside, Chanh doesn't really look like a cozy place I'd go for lunch. But one day, I was passing by, and I saw the kitchen staff from the window. I realized that they were actual vietnamese cooks preparing vietnamese cuisine. It increased my curiosity.

And guess what? A couple of days later, a friend recommended the place. This is how Chanh ended up in my "to do list of places to try in Bucharest." I quickly got an occasion to try a couple of their dishes... and it was really amazing.

If you are into Asian cuisine, this is your place!


Chanh Miam Miam

Having a french name doesn't mean that La Saveur is a french bakery, even if I have to admit that their croissants are quite fabulous. The interior also reminded me of a french bakery. However, when I got a closer look at the products available, I realized that most of it were local pastries, which somehow looked more outstanding than in many other bakeries I've been before in Bucharest. La Saveur is bringing back romanian traditions to the people living in the area, restoring the taste of traditional bread, without adding preservatives in their products. 

Two minutes away from Drumul Taberei recently renovated park, La Saveur is a perfect location to take a break with your friends or your family.

A hidden gem. Located in Drumul Taberei, on the back of the famous Hanul Drumetului restaurant, Demetra Organic Bakery is a little bakery and shop offering you high quality bread, savory pies and pastries. Most of the pies and pastries are from Romanian influence, but we hardly found similar quality elsewhere in town. They also produce their own brownies, quiches and eclairs, which are delicious too. What I like the most is the fact that they use organic flour and sourdough to make their bread.

Not going to Drumul Taberei often, you might be lucky when eating at the restaurant elsewhere, they provide bread to some of the greatest tables in town. But I still advise you to pay them a visit.

Demetra Organic Bakery

DropShot is a recently opened roastery and coffee-to-go place, located in a hidden yard belonging to the former Apaca textile factory. The right place for all the people working in the area and desiring to have a great cup of coffee at affordable prices. The menu consists on having both specialty and non-specialty coffee beans, all roasted in-house, to be able to answer to the needs of everyone. Having the roaster next to the point of sales, and offering coffee beans from various quality is a step forward through educating people too specialty. 

Special tip: You have the possibility to do push-ups at the entrance. If you do 10, your coffee is for free.

Who's in for some good live concert and rock music with friends sometimes? We all do, right? Located between Piata Leul and Grozavesti, Quantic hosts live concerts several time a week, in its large interior, but also in its big terrace. The place is not only offering fresh beer for the ones attending concerts, but also serve great pub food.

Our old friend Gabriel Carutasu took over the former tea house "Joie de Vivre" to open "RePlace" in Cotroceni. Probably the most spacious coffee shop in town, you'll have the choice between sitting at the Provencal looking outdoor terrace or get in the house offering a cozy atmosphere with its wooden chairs and sofas. Coffee wise, you'll have the choice between beans from different roasters also available at most of the places for which Gabriel used to collaborate. The tea selection is still available as well as wonderful pies. 

A brunch menu is also available during weekends.

Have you been to French Revolution's newest place yet?

Many say that French Revolution is the place where the eclairs are actually better than in France. Hardly believable, some would say. But I can assure you never had I so much pleasure eating an eclair before going to French Revolution. On top of eclairs, they now also provide excellent specialty coffee from Origo. It sounds like an ideal sweet break, right?

I still don't know when is the best season to go to Ceainaria Infinitea? When Bucharest is under the snow, the tea place is probably one of the greatest spots where to find refuge and get a hot drink. In summer, their lovely terrace will be the perfect spot to have a break after having spent some time walking in Cotroceni area, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. Have a tea for sure, but don't feel shy and order one of their cheese cakes as well. They are unique.

Do you remember about "Fabrica de Bere Grivita"? It was one of the biggest breweries in Bucharest during the first half of the 20th century. The "Luther brewery", where it was brewed, near the Basarab Overpass, was almost to be demolished, until a recent project to restore the building by private investors have been discussed in the media. 

But what about the brand? The "Fabrica Grivita" beer was not longer a thing, until it came back to reality in 2018. Matei Lucescu, nephew of football trainer Razvan Lucescu, is the main person behind this re-birth. He opened the craft beer brewery few meters away from the original one, in an old industrial building on Soseaua Orhideelor.

Fabrica Grivita is not only a brewery, but also a wonderful beer bar, with a welcoming yard where you can find coffee and food trucks.

Pergola can be considered as one of Cotroceni's new social hubs. Ideal for breakfast lovers, but also for the ones desiring to have dinner or cocktails in the evening, any hour of the day is the perfect time to get there. 

The menu talks for itself: tartar beef, burgers, risottos, salads and mussels on the menu, specialty coffee from Dropshot, great desserts, ice cream from Friddi. What else do you need?


But wait, Pergola is more than a food and drink place, it is also a boutique hotel. And they do have pretty amazing rooms. You can have a look at them on their website. Pergola is definitely a place I would recommend to people coming to Bucharest for a couple of nights. It might also be a great alternative for a staycation. I'll think about that.

A great selection of japanese tea tools and cool books to read or to buy. This is in few words what you can expect at La Petite Bouffe. The small terrace under the shadow is also a big plus.

"Hey, do you know if there is a good Indian place in Bucharest?"

I am sure we all got this question asked by a friend at some point. While it is true that most "Indian places" in Europe don't really taste like in India, we are actually lucky to have, here in Bucharest, a restaurant offering high quality Indian food for our bellies. This place is Taj.

Taj is located on Calea 13 Septembrie, behind the parliament, and not too far from Marriott hotel. 

And if you are not so much into spicy food, do not worry, as you can still get delicious dishes without shading even the smallest tear.

A true Jazz bar in the middle of Cotroceni. Open since 2012, JazzBook hosts jazz concerts every week, promoting both romanian and foreign talents passing by. JazzBook is also a musical springboard for the students from the Convervatory of Music in Bucharest. 

The bohemian atmosphere is also pleasant when there are no concerts, thanks to the old cozy sofas and the lighting which will make you feel like home. A nice set up for a romantic evening or with some friends, which drinks at a very affordable price.

Jazz Book Bistro

In the rather hipsterish Bucharest bar scene, the intimate Beat Bar has a soul of its own. Relocated in 2017 from the Jewish district and in 2023 from the more central Vasile Lascar to Calea Plevnei, Beat Bar has kept intact its unique bohemian vibe, a blend of cultural references that go from the Beat poets to classic French cinema, with a touch of jazz and other alternative music. 

Here, the playlist is open to everyone, and you’ll soon find yourself starting a discussion with a stranger, local or traveller, drinking the night away at a screening of some edgy arthouse movie, at an occasional pop-up yard sale (vinyls, sneakers), or during one of its many concerts, poetry nights or jam sessions. Beat has a deliberately laid-back avant-garde vibe, thanks to Alexandra, the owner, who’ll happily switch to French to chat about Serge Gainsbourg or the Nouvelle Vague. Have you ever been to California ?

Well, Anagram brewery allows you to discover a glimpse of what California is all about, while staying in Bucharest.

As it is mentioned on that jacket, the U.S. and most precisely California is where Paul comes from. But wait! Who is Paul? Paul is Anagram's co-founder and head brewer. He grew up in California but spent probably half of his life in Bucharest. However, his brewery, Anagram, even if being a Romanian craft brewery, has definitely some influence from his homeland.

If you take a look at the different craft beers Anagram launched since its creation, they will all give you that feeling of being on a San Diego beach, or anywhere else on the Californian coast. Their pink-ish labels might bring some memories of a beautiful sunset over the Pacific ocean. 

Finally, if you make it to the brewery -when it is open-, you'll find out it is located straight (or almost straight) on Lacul Morii, which also has a strong potential for wonderful sunsets. Just imagine a basketball playground and it would feel extactly like you were in the US. Oh, wait, there is a basketball playground in front of the brewery.

ANAGRAM BREWERY

Zissou took over what used to be "Two Minutes 2". You haven't heard about it yet ? The real question is: "Is this place the smallest cafe in Europe?" We don't have the answer yet, but what we know is that the total space is about 4 sqm divided in two. One side for the barista who will prepare your coffee drink. The other side for you, if you feel like taking a sit there. If you want it to go, obviously they'll make it possible !  

The place is small, true, but the environment is friendly, making you stay probably longer. As they say, they got inspired by Wes Anderson's universe. Feel free to have a look at what it means.

ZISSOU Coffee Shop

Bocca Lupo is the mix of Italian cuisine and great design which makes you feel so well there.  You will love the spacious area and decor, the lack of terrible loud music that you can find in many other restaurants in the city, and obviously the food. Located in the Eroilor district, Bocca Lupo is the type of place that fits everyone. You can bring your partner for a romantic night, you can go with some friends and have a bunch of pizzas, or you can even do business dinners there for bigger groups, if you feel like doing it in a place which looks a bit different from what you're used to.

I often hear about people telling that it is impossible to eat great fish in Bucharest. But I also often get asked if there is a place where one can eat delicious fish and sea food in Bucharest.

The first place that comes to my mind is Ivan Pescar, providing the fish experience in a way one may have never experienced before. Indeed, this restaurant is not the traditional Mediterranean restaurant where you'll get your fish seasoned with olive oil and herbes de Provence. Ivan Pescar is all about the Danube Delta, the birthplace of Ivan Patzaichin, one of Romania's legends. Ivan Patzaichin won four Olympic medals and nine World Championship medals in canoeing. You understood correctly, Ivan Patzaichin is also the owner of Ivan Pescar, the spotlight for Danube Delta's cuisine in Bucharest (-but also in Tulcea), with Lipovean chefs in the kitchen.

The fish menu is by far one of my favorites, and, as you know, fish goes always with wine... Honestly, I could spend quite a lot of time complimenting the wine list as well, but I'd rather let you explore it by yourself... Enjoy !

Ivan Pescar & Scrumbia Bar (Kingfisher Ivan & Shad Bar)

Grivita Pub&Grill is the right place to socialize when you come for a drink or dinner while near Gara de Nord. You'll be welcomed with a substantial portion of peanuts you have to shell yourself. Please note that you are allowed to throw the peanut shell on the floor, and this is what brings you all the charm of this place. 

The list of burgers is quite attractive as well, offering several options according to your taste. Anyway, you'll have the chance to get the burger bread, made with some pumpkin seeds, making it crunchy, to satisfy you even more.

Also get a look at the wine list, some of the greatest romanian wines being available.

When in 2004 the National Museum of Contemporary Art have moved to the House of the People, the modernity, the iconoclasm and the diversity  entered big time into what was once the center of Ceausescu’s dictatorial power. 
For almost 15 years now, a complete part of this slightly megalomaniac building is dedicated to what the best Romanian and international contemporary art world has to offer in Bucharest. 
3 big modular stairs are dedicated to artists for screenings, installations and other various types of exhibitions.
And because such a museum can delight all of your senses, get ready to find the bar and the rooftop terrace. While the first part of the day can witness from time to time nice brunches, it is often taken over by some pretty nice parties later on.

Two Bastards can be introduced in a couple of words: "The home of Csiki Sor in Bucharest." Wait... What? You haven't heard about Csiki Sor yet? Well, it's THE craft beer from Harghita, brewed in Csíkszentsimon, and distributed in Transylvania, in Hungary, in some parts of Serbia and Slovakia with hungarian minorities, and now in our lovely city.

The bar also offers various cocktails and wines, and some food. Stay tuned for the Gullyas Parties ;)

Two Bastards Pub

So, close your eyes (after reading tho) and imagine you come back from a long journey from Istanbul to Bucharest by bus, while thinking about the nice turkish cuisine you've had the chance to eat while in the Turkish metropolis. What about a last chance to get some delicious Turkish food on your arrival in Bucharest then?

Life does things well. In the Filaret neighbourhood, you can find this perfect hidden gem that covers a lot of turkish classics on the menu. 

From Pide to iskander, you can choose from thirty and a few dishes, a good choice of grilled meats but also veggie options. Pastries are appetizing too.

Last but not least, the terrace is spacious and quiet. Not a fancy one, but definitely good value for money. So if you're in the neighbourhood, why not give it a try?

Turkish Clasis Restaurant

L'Atelier offers one of the finest menu for French cuisine amateurs in Bucharest. The meals are prepared by Samuel Le Torriellec and his team, in a cozy haut de gamme atmosphere, at the entrance of Epoque Hotel, near Cismigiu. You'll also be impressed by the selection of wines mostly from Romania and France, but also from Italy, Chile, Moldova or Spain.

Saola is a small coffee shop on Piata Kogalniceanu, serving coffee from Origo in some wonderful cups, with a selection of chocolates from Domori and a large choice of gelatos from Friddi in sunny days. Doru will most probably be behind the bar, ready to pull some coffee shots for you.

Located next to GrabIt, the Wagyu beef pastrami bar, I usually end up going to both places. You got it, first, take a pastrami sandwich at GrabIt, and end up with a nice cup of coffee at Saola -and an ice cream - before going back to your daily activities.

To all the runners from the Cismigiu Park: you are finally running for a reason. This reason is the tender juicy burgers from Bugeria Stirbei. The new contestant in the burger game, that comes like a slap in your face, a kiss to your belly and a soft pad on the back, swiping away all the troubles from the day. Malacu the cook, always with a big smile on, will craft the shot of calories you need to jog endlessly until your next burger stop.

Finally, Bucharest has its own Zero Waste grocery store. 

And this thanks to a successful campaign on Patreon launched by Ana Maria Raducanu to make her dream come true. The campaign also helped her build a community from day one, as a lot of noise has been done on local and national newspapers about the opening of the Zero Waste store. 

What can I find there?
Well, food and drinks, of course. There is pretty much all you need to be able to cook at home, without throwing any plastic or paper away. Just bring your tote bags and other pots for spices or salt. 

But you can also get natural soap, shampoo and other products you would need to wash yourself.

Most of the time, coffee shop owners are former baristas who acquire enough knowledge and have to desire to manage their own place. Sometimes, it is about a customer who sees an added-value in opening a coffee shop while being novice in preparing coffee (and asks for help to his barista friends). Saint Roastery is the story of a couple. who has spend the last couple of years traveling around the world, to discover all the aspects of coffee, from the farm to the cup, from Africa to America. Saint Roastery is the result of their research and experiences, being both a roastery and a coffee shop, both located in the same place. The place is spacious, the owners are friendly, and of course, the coffee is good. Amen.

We all have a friend who is reluctant to vegan cuisine, right? Well, Bistro Raw & Vegan might be the perfect spot to make this friend change her/his mind. The menu looks like any casual restaurant, just that the meat and diary products are replaced with vegan friendly ingredients. The prices are very correct too. Cheap and tasty should be enough reasons to make someone reduce his meat consumption, right?

A great bakery, but not only. Blitz'n'Roll provides delicious pizzas by the the slice, specialty coffee from Nomonym, tasty pastries such as Pasteis de Nata and artisanal juices. The perfect place for a quick lunch break at a very decent price.

With a very nice garden during summer time, the stylish interior of Edo makes it quite appealing and a good place for eating on weekends, in the heart of Bucharest. The place has many seating options, including diner booths for your friend or family group. And if you feel fishy enough, you can enjoy the big, wet fish pond in the terrace and choose your next meal to put on the plate.
The sushi is terribly good and the seafood tempura as nicely decorated as carefully cooked. Flavor experience 10/10. I suggest you to check the Chef's choice of the week or the tempura ice-cream, they have their own way of making the cream, and my oh my it's goooooood. Finally, because no one likes to snap their neck in order to get the waiter's attention, use the button they provide on the table. A small electrical shock is sent to the waiter, who will instantly jump to your table... Come on, you know i'm not being serious. But the rest is all true.

Edo Sushi

Black Habit is the first cafe you may find when you come from a trip in other Romanian cities. Located between Gara de Nord and the centre, many would look to have a great espresso drink after a long trip with our lovely CFR. The recently opened place is owned by Ionut, former barista at Origo, who knows how to use his Black Eagle espresso machine in the right way. Their menu is fascinating, offering a large selection of cold coffee drinks, as well as delicious sandwiches. Told you, a perfect option when you arrive back in town.

Unlike most places in Bucharest, Zona Liberă has the same intense pulse in the week nights as it has during the weekends. Placed in the back of Cișmigiu, right next to the fold for peacocks, the kiosk is one of the most authentic artifacts of Bucharest. After more than 20 years of being in the same spot, the butic keeps most of its original features. Even the public is the same: kids that used to order cotton candy at the window are now the creatives sipping on drinks and crunching popcorn at the tables.
You won’t come here for dinner, since these instant snacks are all the food you can get. But they’ll come as a blessing after you try all the drinks Zona Liberă has to offer. You’ll want at least a glass of the cheapest gin you can have in the city. Also, try an Igazi Csiki Sor, a hungarian named but locally produced beer. FIY, Igazi Csiki Sor means The Actual Ciuc Beer. The name is addressed to Ciuc makers, subtly suggesting the legal fight the 2 producers had. And then to finish the night properly, give a chance to their Stroh shots with either 60% or 80% alcohol, generously poured from their dispenser.
After leaving, you have to know 2 things will inevitably happen. First, on your way home you’ll surprise yourself gratefully humming the tunes from the playlist. Make a mental note to also search for the music selected by DJ Vasile for his radio show. Bearing the same name as the bar in Cișmigiu, both have just as much personality. Second, you’ll definitely feel the need to come again during day time to check if this mesmerizing place really exists. So let me warn you, Zona Liberă is at least 2 different places jammed into the same cramped space. It’s the hypnotic blue light irradiated from inside that makes it unrealistically cinematic at night. And then discouragingly unfamiliar while it’s still light outside, because of flowers replacing empty beer glasses on the tables. But witnessing the magic of Zona Liberă together with the peacocks nearby, is what makes the boutique unique and us really lucky to have it.

What a cute little place. Who could think such coziness was, in a way, home to activism. Activism might be a strong word, that gets softer when it comes melting in your mouth. Indeed Arome is one of the only vegetarian restaurants of Bucharest. Even though they don't market themselves as such, I don't remember seeing anything meaty on the menu. Removing one of the most-used ingredients (especially here in Romania) brings a great advantage: you get creative. Creative with ingredients, creative with flavors, and that's actually what I like the most when going to Arome. I know I'm not going to eat something I would find anywhere else, and I know it's going to be good.
Oh and one last thing: when summer comes, they become a strong favorite in the 'cutest-garden-around-town' competition. Yes I know what you're thinking, it's perfect for dates too. Officially flirt-approved.

RITZY sensory garden

Established in 2002, Rocca is in a way a quality insurance when it comes to good food and good drinks. They do care about their food, as they often remind you that no dishes are prepared in advance. They keep it fresh and slowly cooked. Surprisingly enough, they offer quite a wide range of asian food, from Chinese to Thai, as much as some tasty Indian dishes. While this usually sounds like a warning signal, they actually nail it each time. Drink wise, next to the classics they offer a nice selection of local craft beers (Sikaru, Three Happy Brewers, Carol, Therapy...) and even make their own craft beers, with a total of 4 different kinds.
Finally, being fully covered, the terrace is actually as good when it's all warm and sunny as when it's pouring rain.

Created in 2012, by Anne Ampawan, Kunnai is THE spot to try Thai contemporary cuisine in Bucharest. Anne, the "modern madame" (translation for Kunnai) and her team (Chef TJ and Apple) focus on bringing the best of Thai modern dishes in Eastern Europe and she does it with boundless enthusiasm and success. 

You're not into spicy food? Kunnai gets you covered with a list of non-spicy dishes.

You're into it? You found your heaven. 

Also, please not that the design is somewhat unique for Bucharest, Anne having collaborated with Thai artist Aran Chankasem, and the team of StudioQube from Bangkok.

Finally, the service also deserves a bit of awareness. It feels good to have waiters not being too intrusive while eating in a restaurant.

The Millenial Burger

The smell, the taste, the lights, and the atmosphere of Mexico in one place, in less than 10 minutes away from the old town. This is what Taqueria El Torito is about. A different concept than the other El Torito restaurant, with a different menu too. The Taqueria has a spacious terrace for groups of people desiring to spend some good time together, and if you want to dance, please do not feel shy about it.

In the spring of 2013, Eclecticó Studio became the first showroom in Bucharest specializing in 20th century design. Due to a distinctive, ever-changing décor, it has also hosted various events.

Bacania Janos Bacsi is a "bacania secuiasca", meaning from the Szekelys, the Hungarian ethnic group living in Harghita, Covasna and Mures regions. 

Most of the products you will find at the "bacania" come from the region. You'll find craft beer, cheese, meat and other delicacies, selected carefully to ensure high quality standards and transparency.

Before you ask - and as it is shown on the picture - : Yes, they speak Romanian, and yes, you will find romanian products too.

One of the most famous places to go out in town, that we particularly like for its industrial architecture, its temporary exhibitions, the variety of music played there at events, its outdoor area,  its people, and many other things that can be understood after a great night there.

Why does FIX keep you coming again and again? 

What kind of black magic do they use in their plant-based cocktails to make you fall in love with yet-another-wonder from the Palatul Universul? Being mostly a wine or craft beer drinker myself (good thing, they have it as well), I thought cocktails were more of a fancy-people drink. But Alex Ciomartan hides under his black cap an unstoppable passion for natural flavors that can please any gourmet. Like my uncle use to say, there's two kind of people in this world: the ones who were born to open a botanical bar, and the ones that were made to drink from it. Luckily for Alex, planets aligned, and he happens to be the friendliest guy around to pour you a drink. 

Now that I think about it, maybe that's the recipe for a good place. Feeling welcomed from the first second to the last minute, in a room where the drinks' single-purpose is to be delicious.

FIX - Botanical Bar

Palatul Universul, a name that could have been chosen by the Dacian gods (you know Zalmoxis, Sabazios, Gebeleizis and others). A name they would have given to such a place, knowing it was going to be the home to many wonders, hiding quietly behind the palace's heavy doors.
One of them is to be found at the very deep, where used to sit the imposing printing press of 'Universul', Romania's biggest newspaper in the 1920's. A room so high that the ceilings manage to let in outside light, making it probably the only 'demi-sol' I would love to set my apartment in. Apollo111 is a bar where took place some of the most memorable parties I've seen recently. It is also a theatre, run and curated by actor Bogdan Dumitrache, where are produced and played independent plays. Positioning itself as inter-disciplinary, Apollo111 also hosts from time to time concerts and art exhibitions.

Just when you thought you’d give up bread, this comes up. Pâine si vin, or the promise of a delightfully sinful absolution for any respectable Frenchman. Located just off Blvd Regina Elisabeta in a tastefully designed space, Pâine si vin is a welcome addition to the Bucharestean foodie scene, as everything here revolves around simple pleasures, mastered to near perfection. 
And not just bread, but flatbread, pizza, flammkuche (the Flemish caloric bomb), Indian Naans, Mexican Tortillas, Swedish Knäckebröd, topped with the most exquisite ingredients, all carefully selected from Romanian producers, making up the most international menu any breadlover could dream of. As if that wasn’t enough, Pâine si vin also serves excellent platters you can share, whether you’re a cold cuts aficionado or a vegetarian. The icing on the cake — so to speak — is the remarkable wine list, mostly from Romania and Moldova. If you'd rather stay sober, try their infused waters, both still and sparkling, they’ll cheer you up all the same.
Two important things to keep in mind before getting absolved: Pâine si vin opens at 5pm, and does not accept reservations. And a third, that could come in handy if you’d rather impress your date at home: they also deliver a small selection from their menu.

French fries may come first in people's mind when it's about  going to eat something at Energia, and if indeed they are delicous, let's bring justice to the place saying that, definitly no, it is not a potato restaurant as Energia has much more to offer. I'd rather see the place as a nice urban restaurant where you can combine a drink with healthy food in cool environment, previously known as  a printing house of the same name.
Cultural events and concerts also contribute  to  make  of Energia an interesting choice for a first place where to start or to prepare your party, before losing your soul into the night.
Then, no matter what your plan is, still, don't forget also to order french fries...

Another Cluj coffee brand in town, opening its second shop at the intersection Brezoianu-Elizabeta, keeping its touch with a great design, and many refreshing signature drinks for the ones willing to explore the taste of specialty coffee beans in non-regular drinks. A newcomer to the neighborhood, making the Brezoianu area more and more some sort of a coffee district of Bucharest.

A looooong list of delicious pastries, all nicely dressed at the counter. Going there alone will force you to have a long reflexion before taking your decision, as all the tarts look tastier than the last. However, going with some friends might be the best option for the ones willing to taste a bit of everything, following with a discussion about what each likes the most (and eventually doing a last minute plate exchange). Anyway, Atelierul de Tarte got you covered: pistachio, chocolate, orange, cream, lemon, biscuits, meringue, this is just a few examples about the tarts you'll find there. And I just talk about the sweet stuff here. 

They also have fabulous savory stuff for brunch and lunch options.

Trofic is the brother-in-food from the Origo team. The place opened in 2017 with the willingness to offer not only one of the best coffee in the city, but also great healthy food. Definitely to put on the top list of places where to have a great brunch in Bucharest.

Sweet or salty? It can be a difficult choice in our everyday routine. Tartelicious will definitely not be a helper when you see how great is their selection of cakes and other quiches and pies. I usually enter in the shop thinking that I will buy one piece of cake and very often get out of the shop with at least two of their delicious products.

Located very close to the park, Beans&Dots has a welcoming and cozy vibe that will make you feel right at home. The service is friendly and the staff will make sure you have a great experience. The place is even pet friendly, with their own resident cats adding to the charm.

Speaking of their drinks, the coffee at Beans&Dots is pure bliss. They serve specialty coffee from The Barn, and each cup is crafted to perfection. Whether you prefer a classic latte or a smooth cappuccino, you won't be disappointed. And if you're feeling hungry, be sure to try their delicious carrot cake or their must-try choco bread.

You don't know true nostalgia until you step into Two Sides Records. Tucked away on the mezzanine floor of Palatul Universul, this vinyl record store is a treasure trove for music enthusiasts. From rock to jazz, hip-hop to world music, you'll find an extensive collection handpicked by store owner and curator, Alin Bittel.

But Two Sides Records offers more than just records. Bittel also hosts a radio show called "Voice of Peace from Two Sides Records" on Black Rhino Radio. This two-hour program introduces listeners to alternative music, steering away from the mainstream. With a diverse mix of genres and international influences, you never know what musical journey you'll embark on.

So, if you're craving the crackle of vinyl and a curated selection of music, make sure to visit Two Sides Records. And don't forget to check their opening times before you go, as they share their space with the coffee shop "Beans&Dots".

You too will be a rocker, my son. Just around the corner from Parcul Carol, Fabrica is one of the last alternative strongholds resisting the gentrification of Bucharest since the tragic events that happened at Colectiv in 2015. Set in yet another refurbished industrial compound (a former socks factory under Ceaușecu), Fabrica is home to a mostly indie crowd, who comes at night to enjoy the classic equation [beer x food x live music], or socialize on the graffiti-covered terrace with their kids and dogs - or bikes - during weekends. 
Fabrica has grown into an alternative mini-village: a pub, two clubs (Club Fabrica & B52), and laid out around the central yard, half a dozen shops (skateboards, streetwear, vintage furniture and accessories, motorbiking gear) as well as a climbing wall. One of the latest additions is Gateway VR, a tiny but cool entertainment center where you can experience virtual reality, run by a friendly and knowledgeable team.

This small café is one of the first places to offer specialty coffee in Bucharest. Origo is not only the name of a café, but also one of the most successful roasteries in Romania. Each time you get there, a selection of two types of coffees will be presented by the baristas, to make sure they’ll prepare the coffee that suits the best for you. Excellence is one of the key words describing Origo. Indeed, the café sees some of their baristas participating to World Coffee championships every year, most of the time bringing good results.

Close your eyes and imagine you enter a gelato shop, you see dozens of delicious flavors and you really need to think prior to choosing what you would like to order. Now, open your eyes, and get ready for a similar experience, but related to the soap you will decide to buy for home. Look at the picture, it is just a glimpse of all the different soap perfumes available at La Maison du Savon. 

This place is ideal for your own little pleasures, but I would also recommend it is also a great gift idea.

DRIP Coffee Shop is the one of the newest specialty cafe in town. It is the first cafe to open near Carol Park, good news for all those who were wondering where to buy a good espresso before going for a sunny walk in the park. Their inspiring turquoise and grey design, as well as their retractable window are making this place somehow different from many others. They serve coffee from Barcelona with 'Right Side', one of the greatest roasteries in Spain.

One thing's certain, compare to many other capitals, Bucharest lacks cinemas and cultural centers promoting independent movies. While (too) many people prefer to spend their time watching blockbusters in cinemas located in shopping malls, the Romanian Peasant Museum proposes a great selection of mostly independent Romanian and foreign movies. 
If you are lucky, you can also enjoy the local products which are sold outside before or after the movie. And of course, the museum in itself is worth visiting too.

Why are people still going to McDonald's if they can go to Burger Van? Being french and addicted to tender and under-cooked meat, it took a little bit of time to adapt to the Romanian-style (stay safe, cook hard). And one day, after trying a burger here, I felt that finally someone had found the way to talk to my senses. Only downside is that I end up buying burgers at least once a week, if not more. Or is it a downside? In any case the menu remains simple, offering 6 different burgers always made with fresh ingredients. Still hesitating? Well, as they say: Yes... we're open.

Open 5 years ago, Pain Plaisir offers one of the tastiest fresh bread of the city. You know how people recommend sushi-places where an actual Japanese crowd goes to eat to? Well same here, follow the frenchies. And I'm not even talking about myself here, but more about all the other ones I bumped into there, who were like me, looking for shelter. We have this stress every-time we go abroad: where will we find good bread? Even more, if we live close to a good bakery, even with the worst apartment, it makes it hard for us to move out. We even base friendships on bread. Did I tell you that the word "copain" (friend), comes from "pain" (bread). Co-pain: the person you share bread with. 
All this to say that Pain plaisir enters this category of little jewel of flour that keeps us bread-lovers happy.

Red neons in the back, a wonderful San Remo Cafe Racer showcased in the middle of one of the most bad-ass coffee shops in town and and few seats available for experiencing espresso drinks in the middle of George Vraca street. You'll find only single origin drinks from different european roasteries. 

Panda Bandit Specialty Coffee

Opened in a area going through an active revivification, Consignatia 7 decided to set foot in Strada George Vraca, besieged by a recent invasion of specialty coffee shops and party places. Being one of the cutest second-hand around with a good curation on what they have to offer, a visit at Consignatia 7 fits perfectly in a lazy and sunny week-end afternoon, strolling around the streets neighboring the Parcul Cismigiu.

"Ceci n'est pas un café". You might be familiar with the Anti-café concept. Seneca offers all-you-can-eat fruits and biscuits, with unlimited tea of all sorts. You don't pay for what you consume, but for the time you spend there (a fair price of 8 RON per hour). The place does not server coffee (sacrebleu!) but only tea and natural lemonades. Filled with books, Seneca is this hybrid between non-café, library and co-working space. Actually, after a bit of flirting with the place, you can go to second base by subscribing to a monthly plan. Pretty quiet and relax, it gets even more quiet in the "quiet-room", made fore the ones who really need to focus without any of the slightest disturbance. May it be to read, meet a friend or work, Seneca is definitely a cozy place with a generous soul.

Livrez Fericire is providing great choux a la creme to Bucharest since a while now. However, they recently opened a paradise for Choux lovers, straight in the city center, and that place is called Love You Choux. 
Their choux are stuffed with cream from different flavors. It is sweet, but refined, and will definitely not let anyone completely indifferent. 

They also provide specialty coffee from Dropshot and a couple of lemonades and juices. Inviting your crush there might not be a bad idea.

Cascara Coffee Roastery opened in 2017 in Snagov and is, since then, providing beans to coffee shops in several cities in Romania. Recently, Bianca and Tiberiu, owners of Cascara, decided to make the move to Bucharest, by opening their coffee shop, with the help of Alin. Located on Calea Victoriei, the coffee shop is a flagship store promoting the results of all their efforts. They have various beans for the ones who enjoy filter coffee. The espresso lovers will enjoy seeing the preparation of their favourite drink on a Modbar, giving more transparency than ever in the way the barista prepares it. 

They have a nice selection of coffee beans, but the pastries are also something which makes Cascara special. The only thing I can tell is that you should definitely give it a try.

Yes, Coolinart can make it happen. The burger is vegan and juicy in fact, accompanied with handmade fries. The perfect match, I tell you.

Not necessarily interested in eating burgers? Well, you will find avocados in all shapes, salads and smoothies, and more.

Not to mention that having a sunny terrace on Calea Victoriei, located at a reasonable distance from the road, reduces the cars noise, and will, therefore, make it one of your favorite places for brunch.

Opened by the Romanian microbrewery 'Zaganu', Fabrica de bere bună is a large craft beer bar opened on Calea Victoriei. Along their own beers, you'll find other good local beers served draft or bottle, from Hop hooligans to Ground Zero, but not only. Not only, as Clarks comes crashing the party with their natural not-too-sweet exquisite Cider. Coming from a land of cider (a.k.a Normandy), this is a cider I can vouch for. So what were we talking about... Oh ah, wait, yes beer. But not only, as you can find some useful appetizers / tapas to go with your fresh bubbly beverage. Bonus for the one who like to look at the people passing by the street from a higher point of view, but still are a bit afraid from heights: you can have a sit in front of their big windows overlooking Calea Victoriei from the first floor. Or to be looked at, depending on what you're into.

Every year, there is a summer hit! You know, the song that everyone ends up listening all the time from May until the end of September. Well, Velocita is a bit like a summer hit. It is the place we don't even need to introduce to anyone. 
Long story short, they opened, and the next day, half of Bucharest was queuing in order to get a gelato. The only difference between Velocita and a summer hit is that a summer hit's lifetime equals to one season, while we know Velocita will be in our hearts for a while. Velocita, the true love of many generations?
PS: Consider going to Velocita in winter as well. The Tiramisu and the coffee are damn good!

Garage Cafe is a cafe which literally stands in a Garage. The ones from Timisoara may think that it is a franchise from their own Garage Cafe, but there is just zero connection between both places, besides the fact that both sell coffee. Having acquired the garage last year, they are moving to the next step by adding a van that will be offering coffee in different places in Bucharest in no time. The only problem now is that they might need a garage to put the van...

Vegans, step aside. Linea is pretty much for meat lovers. New places get trendy real fast, so back to rule #1: Always Make A Reservation. As you exit the elevator on the 4th floor of the Interbelic building, the first thing you’ll notice is the big, bustling char & grill kitchen (thank goodness, it’s enclosed). Stretching over the full length of the building, the dining space and bar are impressive, with a nice modern design. If you’re into beef and really hungry, go for the brisket, a one-of-a kind experience in Bucharest. Burgers rate pretty high, and the wine list has some very nice and quite fancy offerings.  

One floor up is Closer to the Moon, the new contender in the raging Bucharest Rooftops War. Stretching over a narrow but seemingly endless terrace, lined with a loooooong mural by Bucharest graffiti artists Sweet Damage Crew, Closer to the Moon offers a stunning view of western Bucharest and the Parliament (yes, sunsets do get awesome here). This winter, the rooftop is host to a dozen private heated igloos (more like small transparent plastic domes), where you can enjoy a drink or eat closer to the skies. Don’t expect to find one unless you’ve made a reservation. But once you’re in, come rain or snow, just text the waiter your order. Titania here, bring on the ţuica fiartă!

Nestled on Regina Elizabeta boulevard, Balls. is bursting with flavour, from its zingy interior design to its delicious selection of meat (and vegetarian!) balls. Its menu features chiftele adaptations from around the world, as well as seasonal guest recipes from its passionate chefs. This is homely food made with love and served with fun. With its 130 seats, Cinema Union isn’t the biggest cinema in town, but it is one of the nicest to any self-respecting cinephile.
Before known as the Romanian Cinemateca, it sets itself as an institution of long tradition as In 1962 the National Film Archives held there their first event. Even if a couple of years later, the location changed, before finally settling down at Strada Ion Câmpineanu, Union’s philosophy remained the same: to reunite cinema lovers around the promotion of cinematographic culture.
For this reason, not only Cinema Union is part of Europas Cinemas, but they also take part in many types of movie festivals, such as One World Romania, NexT or Animest.

Do you know the Ice Cream Boyz? Ice Cream and Cakes? Well, if not, it is ok, Sweetology also offers both. They have a selection of different cheese cakes, which doesn't mean that you will have a Burduf cheese cake, no worries, but more like different toppings with the cheese cake base. For the ice cream lovers, we honestly fell in love with their salted caramel ice cream, but please keep it for yourself. Another great thing about Sweetology is that you can go there til 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

For a lot of people, eating a pizza seems like having some basic comfort food. This happens until you try a pizza from PizzaMania. Each bite of their pizzas will make you understand that a lot of efforts have been put together for you to have a moment of culinary pleasure. Think only about the dough, which is usually what people judge to determine whether or not a pizza is a good one. At PizzaMania, they let the dough rest for 26 hours at least, ensuring a delicious and light taste. They cover the dough with high-quality product and let it in the oven for the perfect amount of time, offering a great result I can only recommend. Many people love this place, and they have many good reasons to do so.

A beautiful and spacious coffee shop, with a minimalist design, excellent coffee from Fjord, and a delicious brunch/lunch menu (I personally recommend the mushroom toast).

Baristro is the perfect place for a coffee break before (-or after) spending the day in Carol Park, which is next door. But it is also definitely the type of coffee shop I would recommend if you have a business meeting or if you want to read a book from the terrace.

They receive their pastries and bread from Grain Trip and sell some products for home. Quality at every level.

Ok... Le Bab sounds like "Kebab", but this place is definitely not your typical shaorma place.

Le Bab is indeed about the Middle East, but in a modern, elegant and stylish way... Le Bab first opened in London, where the two owners, Stephen and Ed, decided to bring modern middle-eastern food in the heart of Soho. But guess what? They got so inspired by the vibes of Bucharest, that their idea to open a place in Bucharest became true.

Spacious place, carefully designed by Angus Buchanan, with a nice terrace allowing to see the CEC Palace. Le Bab is one of these great spots we wish we could find more easily in Centrul Vechi.

Everyone has a love-hate relationship with Control but let’s admit that, at one point (almost) everyone ends up coming back. Since the communist era the place has seen the birth of many (more or less) ephemerals couple. Back then the place was known as a restaurant called “Berlin”, to which Control Club payed its respect by naming the main concert room “Sala Berlin”. From Jazz Nouveau’s concerts, to Berghain’s resident DJ set, from Princess Nokia’s feminist Hip-Hop to Gang of Four, Control has offered and still offers high quality events. And if you ever can't find your soul mate for the night, you could always eat your sadness away: go upstairs to Alt-Shift where they serve pretty-delicious-pizzas until the morning.

While some people would refer to it as « the restaurant above club Control », Alt Shift is a bit more than that. Launched in 2015 by the owners of Shift, Alt Shift has it all: perfect central location, really good food, impeccable service, a wide choice of Romanian (but not only) wines and smashing desserts, in a cool post-industrial design that also feels homey. You could only wish all places had that level of quality and attention to detail, while also remaining affordable… 

This is a keeper, and you’ll find yourself coming back to enjoy its trendy vibe during weekends or more laid-back during the week. During daytime, when the season allows, you can also eat out on the awesome terrace of Control. A couple of things to keep in mind: always remember to make a reservation, and if you’ve been lured up here from the club to enjoy the great pizzas, make sure you come after midnight (that’s when the night shift menu comes to life!).

Alt Shift

A little coffee roastery in the heart of Bucharest...

Uzina exists since several years as the roastery, but they decided to make the big move to open their own coffee shop Piata Amzei in 2020, in order to be closer to their customers and of course to get more visibility. 

But Uzina is quickly becoming much more than a coffee shop and roastery. The place is hosting concerts almost every evening in sunny days. Go for a coffee, leave with some craft beer in your belly, and nice memories in your head.

First of all, please note that Artichoke is most probably the favorite café among instagramers in Bucharest. The café is located at the end of an archway, near Kretzulescu Church and the Humanitas Library. Diana Anghel, owner of the place, expresses there her love for plants and modernist architecture. That's how Artichoke became this mix between modernist and minimalist, linked with a touch of green. The jungle of Artichoke continuously hosts art exhibitions, usually showcasing local artists between two leaves. Good coffee in a tasteful decor makes people often refer to it as a cozy cocoon, where you end up spending an entire afternoon catching up with your close ones.

Opened since 2012, Kyralina is a french bookstore located in a wonderful house, in Amzei district, offering an amazing selection of novels, humanities, comics, art, and other curated books. There is also a big offer for kids. Want to learn French?

Well, it is actually much more than a cute place, but a place where culinary miracles happen.

From delicious wraps to tasty cakes, not to forget their (vegan, of course) cheeseburger and Super Quinoa burger, there are plenty of yummy options meat lovers can't refuse. 

And guess what? The prices are really fair for what you get. 

Yes, Sara Green is a vegan restaurant, but you don't need to "be vegan" to give it a try.

Many say that French Revolution is the place where the eclairs are actually better than in France. Hardly believable, some would say. But I can assure you never had I so much pleasure eating an eclair before going to French Revolution. On top of eclairs, they now also provide excellent specialty coffee from Origo. Not the worst combo for a sweet break.

C22 is located in a dead-end street, sunny around noon, shady in the afternoon. The place has a bit of a Brooklyn movie atmosphere, and deserves to be enjoyed together with friends. 

A great hidden gem, "doi pasi" away from the glamorous Calea Victoriei.

Are you fed up with giving your money away to the big guys, in exchange of the lowest quality bread? If yes, you and I have found each other (BFFs!). Like me, your anti-capitalist instincts may want to overthrow the system sometimes. But hold on, there's an easier (and tastier alternative). 

Go to Miez! Open since 2016, the place offers authentic handmade products crafted with expertise and passion. Bread, pastries, they all taste unique. If Amzei’s area is known as a pleasant area where to find proper groceries, it’s also thanks to Miez.

8 in the morning, you just woke up with one thought in mind: treating yourself with a nice breakfast. Or wait no, you just left the club Eden instead, it was a long night of partying... And your tummy is screaming 'feed me'. Well, in both case simply follow the white rabbit by clicking on "Go there".

Fine dining restaurant, with a spacious terrace and a wonderful interior in a beautiful house in central Bucharest. The menu is quite special, offering dishes with an extra touch of Asian and French influences. Specialties from Thailand and Myanmar blend well with the French cuisine, and the menu proposed by Manuela Paraschivescu, chef and co-owner of the place, highlights how to play with the ingredients to offer a unique experience.

Restaurant Savart

It's all about wine!

I didn't expect such a wide range of Romanian and European wines, they claim 500 references. Being also a wine store, you just have to add 30 lei on any bottle to have it served at your table, enabling you to enjoy world class wines at cellar price. The menu seems appetizing though I've only tried a delicious platter of well-selected Romanian cheese. 

Fancy yet casual, service was top notch, so there's no point to drink home anymore!

GastroLab - Wine & Food Experience

Teahouse 5 is one of the places you would enjoy spending your sunny days, having a great selection of tea and other fresh drinks that you can enjoy in a wonderful terrace, belonging to Podstel, the coolest hostel in Romania they say. The travel community often meets there, and we all sometimes feel like discovering like-minded people, from each corner of this world.

Mexican cuisine, using Romanian products only. Nothing was imported from Mexico, besides some of the equipment used to cook amazing dishes. Yes, it helps reducing a place's carbon-footprint, and yes, it tastes great! Tacos lovers have a new place to add in their to-do-list, when being in western Bucharest. 

M.A.T stands for "Masa Artisanal Taqueria" for the ones who are still wondering why "M.A.T".

About the design? Somewhat minimalist, somewhat rustic, but definitely well done! Congrats to the chefs, Alexandru Iacob and Cristi Dăscăleanu, and the rest of the team.



M.A.T Restaurant

Bucharest and more generally Romania, have a strong and very powerful art history and some places such as Galateca Gallery are here to show that the tradition continues. Conscient of that heritage, the architect Radu Teaca founded the gallery where decades of exhbitions followed one another since the place opened in 2012.  Space of creation particularly active, Galateca has seen succeed various artists from Romania and abroad, all linked around the idea of a  "Romanian Art Energy".  Danse, painting, happening, drawing or sculpture are just few example of what  happened and what it is still presenting there. The same way, Victor Fonta, Frederic Liwer or  Hirotoshi Ito are just few very talented artists  among others  that exhibited their work at the gallery.
Ideally located in Bucharest, close to the Atheum, the National Art Museum or very nice bars and restaurants, Galeteca quickly became one of my favourite art place in town.

Aubergine is a perfect example of the type of restaurant we all would like to see more in Centrul Vechi. You know, that restaurant where no one stands outside to ask you if you'd like to eat something in 5 languages until they figure out you're not a tourist.

Mediterranean cuisine on the menu, which doesn't mean italian cuisine necessarily. Here, you'll find some of the typical lebanese/israeli dishes, as well as other moroccan influenced meals, an amazing selection of fish and meat. I particularly love the importance of vegetables in each plates they serve and the way it is cooked.

At Aubergine, good cuisine goes with beautiful design. Between two courses, have a look at these doors fixed on the wall. It really looks great !

Crocant is one of these outstanding places in town, with many nice things, but I am trying to figure out what I should mention first? Probably their cakes and biscuits, being all exposed at the food counter, that you might look for a couple of minutes before deciding what to order. Then, you'll see that they have a breakfast and brunch menu. I can only suggest that you come several time to decide what you like most, because so far, I enjoyed literally everything. Coffee lovers, you'll be served with some coffee from Guido, and the people looking for some sparkles can opt for some of the trendy lemonades, sodas and craft beer. Not to forget, Crocant is not only a nice brunch place, but it is also a bakery, in case you're looking for some good bread for home.
