Black Habit is the first cafe you may find when you come from a trip in other Romanian cities. Located between Gara de Nord and the centre, many would look to have a great espresso drink after a long trip with our lovely CFR. The recently opened place is owned by Ionut, former barista at Origo, who knows how to use his Black Eagle espresso machine in the right way. Their menu is fascinating, offering a large selection of cold coffee drinks, as well as delicious sandwiches. Told you, a perfect option when you arrive back in town.

Al Pastor by MAT offers a fresh spin on the traditional taste of Mexican tacos al pastor. Established in 2002, Rocca is in a way a quality insurance when it comes to good food and good drinks. They do care about their food, as they often remind you that no dishes are prepared in advance. They keep it fresh and slowly cooked. Surprisingly enough, they offer quite a wide range of asian food, from Chinese to Thai, as much as some tasty Indian dishes. While this usually sounds like a warning signal, they actually nail it each time. Drink wise, next to the classics they offer a nice selection of local craft beers (Sikaru, Three Happy Brewers, Carol, Therapy...) and even make their own craft beers, with a total of 4 different kinds.
Finally, being fully covered, the terrace is actually as good when it's all warm and sunny as when it's pouring rain.

With a very nice garden during summer time, the stylish interior of Edo makes it quite appealing and a good place for eating on weekends, in the heart of Bucharest. The place has many seating options, including diner booths for your friend or family group. And if you feel fishy enough, you can enjoy the big, wet fish pond in the terrace and choose your next meal to put on the plate.
The sushi is terribly good and the seafood tempura as nicely decorated as carefully cooked. Flavor experience 10/10. I suggest you to check the Chef's choice of the week or the tempura ice-cream, they have their own way of making the cream, and my oh my it's goooooood. Finally, because no one likes to snap their neck in order to get the waiter's attention, use the button they provide on the table. A small electrical shock is sent to the waiter, who will instantly jump to your table... Come on, you know i'm not being serious. But the rest is all true.

To all the runners from the Cismigiu Park: you are finally running for a reason. This reason is the tender juicy burgers from Bugeria Stirbei. The new contestant in the burger game, that comes like a slap in your face, a kiss to your belly and a soft pad on the back, swiping away all the troubles from the day. Malacu the cook, always with a big smile on, will craft the shot of calories you need to jog endlessly until your next burger stop.

Do you know the Ice Cream Boyz? Ice Cream and Cakes? Well, if not, it is ok, Sweetology also offers both. They have a selection of different cheese cakes, which doesn't mean that you will have a Burduf cheese cake, no worries, but more like different toppings with the cheese cake base. For the ice cream lovers, we honestly fell in love with their salted caramel ice cream, but please keep it for yourself. Another great thing about Sweetology is that you can go there til 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Unlike most places in Bucharest, Zona Liberă has the same intense pulse in the week nights as it has during the weekends. Placed in the back of Cișmigiu, right next to the fold for peacocks, the kiosk is one of the most authentic artifacts of Bucharest. After more than 20 years of being in the same spot, the butic keeps most of its original features. Even the public is the same: kids that used to order cotton candy at the window are now the creatives sipping on drinks and crunching popcorn at the tables.
You won’t come here for dinner, since these instant snacks are all the food you can get. But they’ll come as a blessing after you try all the drinks Zona Liberă has to offer. You’ll want at least a glass of the cheapest gin you can have in the city. Also, try an Igazi Csiki Sor, a hungarian named but locally produced beer. FIY, Igazi Csiki Sor means The Actual Ciuc Beer. The name is addressed to Ciuc makers, subtly suggesting the legal fight the 2 producers had. And then to finish the night properly, give a chance to their Stroh shots with either 60% or 80% alcohol, generously poured from their dispenser.
After leaving, you have to know 2 things will inevitably happen. First, on your way home you’ll surprise yourself gratefully humming the tunes from the playlist. Make a mental note to also search for the music selected by DJ Vasile for his radio show. Bearing the same name as the bar in Cișmigiu, both have just as much personality. Second, you’ll definitely feel the need to come again during day time to check if this mesmerizing place really exists. So let me warn you, Zona Liberă is at least 2 different places jammed into the same cramped space. It’s the hypnotic blue light irradiated from inside that makes it unrealistically cinematic at night. And then discouragingly unfamiliar while it’s still light outside, because of flowers replacing empty beer glasses on the tables. But witnessing the magic of Zona Liberă together with the peacocks nearby, is what makes the boutique unique and us really lucky to have it.

You'll be able to try amazing dishes prepared by a passionate chef, who loves to share his passion of Latin-America through his dishes. If you're more familiar and willing to get some Mexican cuisine, just know that delicious burritos, chimichangas and tortillas are also on the menu. Y ahora, que aproveche!

Open in the morning for breakfast lovers, until late at night for wine and cocktails enthusiasts, GRAM Bistro will always have something attractive on its menu, at any time of the day. The best way to explain you what a Russian pancake is about is to try it yourself. Just know that after one amazing salted pancake, you might feel quite full. But if you still feel like feeding your stomach with good food, there is an interesting sweet menu as well. 

We usually go for the pancake with cheese, lot of cheese.

If you wonder about the chef, just know that he is from Russia and he knows what he does.

Fine dining restaurant, with a spacious terrace and a wonderful interior in a beautiful house in central Bucharest. The menu is quite special, offering dishes with an extra touch of Asian and French influences. Specialties from Thailand and Myanmar blend well with the French cuisine, and the menu proposed by Manuela Paraschivescu, chef and co-owner of the place, highlights how to play with the ingredients to offer a unique experience.

Bucharest and more generally Romania, have a strong and very powerful art history and some places such as Galateca Gallery are here to show that the tradition continues. Conscient of that heritage, the architect Radu Teaca founded the gallery where decades of exhbitions followed one another since the place opened in 2012.  Space of creation particularly active, Galateca has seen succeed various artists from Romania and abroad, all linked around the idea of a  "Romanian Art Energy".  Danse, painting, happening, drawing or sculpture are just few example of what  happened and what it is still presenting there. The same way, Victor Fonta, Frederic Liwer or  Hirotoshi Ito are just few very talented artists  among others  that exhibited their work at the gallery.
Ideally located in Bucharest, close to the Atheum, the National Art Museum or very nice bars and restaurants, Galeteca quickly became one of my favourite art place in town.

Sweet or salty? It can be a difficult choice in our everyday routine. Tartelicious will definitely not be a helper when you see how great is their selection of cakes and other quiches and pies. I usually enter in the shop thinking that I will buy one piece of cake and very often get out of the shop with at least two of their delicious products.

Carturesti Verona is the right place to find a great selection of books, as well as other accessories and decorative items. Similarly to the Carturesti from the old center, you can find a cafe inside the building. A good place to stroll around its alleys and forget about how fast is time passing by.

In the spring of 2013, Eclecticó Studio became the first showroom in Bucharest specializing in 20th century design. Due to a distinctive, ever-changing décor, it has also hosted various events.
What’s in store: furniture or decorations created by famous designers of the 50’s – 90’s, artworks and decorative items from the second half of the century.

Open 5 years ago, Pain Plaisir offers one of the tastiest fresh bread of the city. You know how people recommend sushi-places where an actual Japanese crowd goes to eat to? Well same here, follow the frenchies. And I'm not even talking about myself here, but more about all the other ones I bumped into there, who were like me, looking for shelter. We have this stress every-time we go abroad: where will we find good bread? Even more, if we live close to a good bakery, even with the worst apartment, it makes it hard for us to move out. We even base friendships on bread. Did I tell you that the word "copain" (friend), comes from "pain" (bread). Co-pain: the person you share bread with. 
All this to say that Pain plaisir enters this category of little jewel of flour that keeps us bread-lovers happy.

Another Cluj coffee brand in town, opening its second shop at the intersection Brezoianu-Elizabeta, keeping its touch with a great design, and many refreshing signature drinks for the ones willing to explore the taste of specialty coffee beans in non-regular drinks. A newcomer to the neighborhood, making the Brezoianu area more and more some sort of a coffee district of Bucharest.

Rick Berkelmans (Hedof) masterpiece in the yard of the Ion Mincu University is one of the things most of people visiting Bucharest don't know about. Some other paintings can be found around. How to get there? During weekdays when the students are there, or eventually during the weekend if you kindly ask the security, hoping that they're having a good day!

You might have a heard about Londophone close to Cismigiu... Well you've found yourself a Londohome now. A good spot if you're a bit curious about Bucharest's music scene. Also a good occasion to chill on the terrace, under the cozy green leaves, and most likely with either a craft beer (Three Happy Brewers, Sikaru, Hop Hooligans...) or why not, an original craft cider from Clarks.

Fresh french pastries and bread, a selection of amazing refreshing drinks, blend from Origo, some delicious salads for the food lovers enjoying a nice walk in Cotroceni. A great selection of japanese tea tools and cool books to read or to buy. This is in few words what you can expect at La Petite Bouffe. The small terrace under the shadow is also a big plus.

LVEV, for La Vita E Velo, and not for Lviv, the Ukrainian city. LVEV is a shop located in the city center, selling hip bicycle brands such as Brompton, Brooks, Pashley and Electra. But that's not all, LVEV is also a coffee shop, using beans from Madison prepared on a La Marzocco and also offering a brunch menu. The large vitrines makes it a great spot for the ones looking for a cozy atmosphere while enjoying the light coming from outside. The tables from the Mezzanine are also bringing their added-value, being able to welcome large-ish groups of people to gather together around a cup of coffee.

LVEV

It took me some time to know where to find fresh fish in Bucharest. And finally Raionul de Pește appeared to me. My own little miracle, as an apparition of the virgin Mary, it comes as a life changing event. Calamari, shrimps, octopus, fried sardines or fish and chips? From the Adriatic sea, to the Atlantic, the chefs will make sure they cook something which fits your needs. You will most probably take a sit in front of one of the two kitchens, bringing you closer to the artisans preparing your dish. While located in Dorobanti area, the place is still pretty laid-back. You will find workers having a quick lunch, business people having a quick -but tasty- bite to relax afterwork, or elderly people craving for sea food. No fancy dress-code, come as you are and enjoy a some of the finest seafood around.

Bookstore? Bar with a view? Or both maybe? Carturesti Carusel is the flagship store of Carturesti in the whole country. Loved by the locals, and fascinating for the ones visiting Bucharest for the first time, the building itself is a memorable experience for the ones passing by. There is also an amazing selection of books and gifts who can be offered to your loved ones. A mandatory step for the ones looking to buy Christmas or Birthday presents.

As you might expect from the coffee shop above Bucharest's official SCA barista school, First Coffee serves tremendous coffee. Driven by a passion for sharing good coffee with the world, it has been filling cups with delicious black stuff since early 2018. With a focus on the whole supply chain, from grower to cup, the care and attention paid by its staff and owners is self-evident. 

The name itself emphasises their intentions - that at First Coffee, you'll always remember your first great coffee - that first sip that made you fall in love with specialty coffee; when you first felt how much effort and expertise went into your cup. A champion of the specialty coffee community in Romania and beyond, the shop often presents experts from around the world, hosting regular cuppings, training sessions and experimental social events.
 
Beside relaxing in their bright and comfortable lounge with your drink and one of their delicious cakes, they also sell a wide range of coffee-making equipment, accessories and books.

Conveniently located, right beside the Piata Sf. Gheorghe Tram Station, it's a great spot to visit any time you're in the Old Town/Unirii/Universtate area. Especially with their new wireless phone charging dock, First Coffee is a a great place to recharge your notions about coffee.

Romania's craft beer scene boomed in the last few years, some of the brands being already considered iconic. However, many other micro-breweries are doing a good job all over the country, and the right way to know about most of them is to go to The Beer Institute, the first shop dedicated only to local craft beers. More than 100 different brands available in the shop, but there is also the possibility to enjoy a fresh beer at the bar.

Romanian food is not necessarily about Mici, Sarmale and Zacusca, and Zexe makes sure people who enjoy a dinner at their restaurant get to know about other specific dishes. Having a focus on food from the interbelic period, they put on the menu some recipes which have somehow disappeared from today's romanian cuisine. As they say : "Pronounce in a loud voice, holding your right hand on your heart, the password: ZEXE! " when you arrive there. It will make you become one of those enthusiastic people willing and determined to put the Romanian gastronomy on the map of European culinary values.

Who's in for some good live concert and rock music with friends sometimes? We all do, right? Located between Piata Leul and Grozavesti, Quantic hosts live concerts several time a week, in its large interior, but also in its big terrace. The place is not only offering fresh beer for the ones attending concerts, but also serve great pub food.

Papila Kitchen is a place carefully composed by skilful hands; as careful as if they were selecting the meats on a charcuterie board. Keeping tabs on taste, aspect and cohesion, Maria Burachu and Gabriel Herdean have created a kitchen resembling an anecdote you tell your dearest friends over a glass of wine. Every flavour is considered: sweet tableware, savoury furniture, sour textiles, umami lights and not a hint of bitterness. With the support of their most talented friends, they have succeed in putting together an international kitchen - basically a living room of taste where you go out with your dearest people, family and friends.

The menu, developed, tested and implemented by Chef Vasile Nicolae, is inspired by different parts of the world and, more importantly, is built on seasonal dishes. The soup section includes a thai soup to warm you up from the inside out, as well as a cream tomato soup with the perfect texture. For sandwich lovers, there’s beef with goulash sauce and roasted bell pepper. But they also have one with home grown chicken, camembert and garlic puree! What to choose?! 

Papila is also very-vegan-friendly, since their all-vegetable sandwich is fantastic. The drinks are well-selected: coffee and specialty teas, craft beer and various liquid mixes with fruits and aromatic herbs.

Everything Maria and Gabriel did at Papila, they did with a sole goal in mind: expressing the best versions of themselves. Bring your taste buddies here and you won’t regret it.

PAPILA

Pain Plaisir Dorobanti is one of these bakeries that we like to have next to our home. They got some fre(s)(nc)h bread obviously, but also a quick selection of pastries and cakes you would crave for. An example is the Kouign Amman, which is as tasty as the ones you can find in Brittany, place of origin of this cake made of layers of salted butter, sugar bread dough.

Since 2007, Madison educates people in discovering the world of luxury perfumery. From fragrances to candles and other body products, the "best noses" in the city will help you discovering high-end products from France, Italy or Spain. One of the only way to clean your nose after smelling few perfumes is by smelling coffee. Therefore, coffee has its role in the shop, as Madison roasts specialty coffee in order to provide to their customers a memorable customer experience.

Our old friend Gabriel Carutasu took over the former tea house "Joie de Vivre" to open "RePlace" in Cotroceni. Probably the most spacious coffee shop in town, you'll have the choice between sitting at the Provencal looking outdoor terrace or get in the house offering a cozy atmosphere with its wooden chairs and sofas. Coffee wise, you'll have the choice between beans from different roasters also available at most of the places for which Gabriel used to collaborate. The tea selection is still available as well as wonderful pies.

Located few steps away from Unirii, Emozia will come to you as a refuge in a small cobblestone alley, where coffee enthusiasts will find great coffee, as well as a selection of amazing coffee related books to read on site. We particularly like the community table there, giving you the chance to socialize with other guests.

Guido is primarily a roastery, making it a right place to enjoy the smell of freshly roasted beans. Mostly serving coffee bags for home baristas, you can still go for a visit and order your favourite drink. If you want to feel the vibes of a coffee shop and drink the coffee from Guido, go to Fellow One, on Calea Victoriei.

Bucharest's most recent museum, featuring Romanian art from 1960 til today, as well as temporary exhibitions. We love the exhibitions, obviously, but also the building, designed by Youssef Tohme Architects and Associates. A five floor building with its own identity, where you can find a coffee shop (serving coffee from Bob Coffee Lab), a food area, an auditorium, a rooftop terrace, a library and a wonderful garden.

Canadian artist Jeff Wall exhibition is now on-site, until the end of January.

MARe/Muzeul de Artă Recentă

Did you know that goats were extremely important for the coffee world? Indeed, Ethiopian dancing goats were the first ones chewing coffee beans back then (don't ask for an exact date). So goats finally have their mausoleum in Bucharest, where we can celebrate their super powers. Supported with a Della Corte espresso machine and coffee from Sloane Coffee Roasters, you can maybe ask for goat milk with your Flat White or Cappuccino (if not, they also have cow milk)?

We all know that these moments are not always (probably never) the funniest moments of you day. But hopefully there is a place in town to remind you how important is a chill drink in good company.

J’ai Bistrot is one of the reasons why I spend most of the year missing Bucharest's summer. The chill little garden, the music, the people there, building up this nice atmosphere that turns in sweet memories. For an after-work drink, a before or even a date, the bistrot does the job. Even better, they rock the fries that comes with their burgers. You know this tasty burger, the one you can't stop yourself from ordering after the second beer goes down the drain. Why do they have to smell so good, damn it.

Located at the entrance of Strada Grivitei, you cannot miss its orange metallic door lost in the middle of the art shops and dilapidated houses of the neighborhood. Here you are, step in, sit back and relax.

Experience the charm of Popa Tatu 68, a delightful event space with much to offer. This location boasts specialty coffee from Nomonym, known for its rich and distinctive flavors. Imagine being at a grandma's house somewhere in Transylvania, who's inviting you to take a sit in front of a table full of local dishes prepared carefully before your arrival. 

You got it, it's all about Romanian and Hungarian influences in the plate tonight, not to forget the delicious craft beers and spirits. I particularly like the indoor, made of wooden furnitures, white walls and Transylvanian fabrics, but the you can also eat in the nice looking yard during sunny days.

And this thanks to a successful campaign on Patreon launched by Ana Maria Raducanu to make her dream come true. The campaign also helped her build a community from day one, as a lot of noise has been done on local and national newspapers about the opening of the Zero Waste store. 

What can I find there?
Well, food and drinks, of course. There is pretty much all you need to be able to cook at home, without throwing any plastic or paper away. Just bring your tote bags and other pots for spices or salt. 

But you can also get natural soap, shampoo and other products you would need to wash yourself. 

We hope to see more places like that in town! See you there!

Magazin Zero Waste

What a cute little place. Who could think such coziness was, in a way, home to activism. Activism might be a strong word, that gets softer when it comes melting in your mouth. Indeed Arome is one of the only vegetarian restaurants of Bucharest. Even though they don't market themselves as such, I don't remember seeing anything meaty on the menu. Removing one of the most-used ingredients (especially here in Romania) brings a great advantage: you get creative. Creative with ingredients, creative with flavors, and that's actually what I like the most when going to Arome. I know I'm not going to eat something I would find anywhere else, and I know it's going to be good.
Oh and one last thing: when summer comes, they become a strong favorite in the 'cutest-garden-around-town' competition. Yes I know what you're thinking, it's perfect for dates too. Officially flirt-approved.

We all have a friend who is reluctant to vegan cuisine, right? Well, Bistro Raw & Vegan might be the perfect spot to make this friend change her/his mind. The menu looks like any casual restaurant, just that the meat and diary products are replaced with vegan friendly ingredients. The prices are very correct too. Cheap and tasty should be enough reasons to make someone reduce his meat consumption, right?

Food Hood is back ! You remember the years when Food Hood was "the only cool place in Centrul Vechi"? Well, luckily Centrul Vechi is getting slowly but surely better each day. However, Food Hood relocated at the intersection between Calea Grivitei and Strada Budisteanu. 

Food trucks, craft beer and more, Food Hood is one of these locations people adore, especially in summer. 

But that's not all, there are a lot of events taking place, such as Garage Sales, Art events, markets with local producers and more.

Grivita Pub&Grill is the right place to socialize when you come for a drink or dinner while near Gara de Nord. You'll be welcomed with a substantial portion of peanuts you have to shell yourself. Please note that you are allowed to throw the peanut shell on the floor, and this is what brings you all the charm of this place. 

The list of burgers is quite attractive as well, offering several options according to your taste. Anyway, you'll have the chance to get the burger bread, made with some pumpkin seeds, making it crunchy, to satisfy you even more.

Yes, Coolinart can make it happen. The burger is vegan and juicy in fact, accompanied with handmade fries. The perfect match, I tell you.

Not necessarily interested in eating burgers? Well, you will find avocados in all shapes, salads and smoothies, and more.

Not to mention that having a sunny terrace on Calea Victoriei, located at a reasonable distance from the road, reduces the cars noise, and will, therefore, make it one of your favorite places for brunch.

Livrez Fericire is providing great choux a la creme to Bucharest since a while now. However, they recently opened a paradise for Choux lovers, straight in the city center, and that place is called Love You Choux. 
Their choux are stuffed with cream from different flavors. It is sweet, but refined, and will definitely not let anyone completely indifferent. 

They also provide specialty coffee from Dropshot and a couple of lemonades and juices. Inviting your crush there might not be a bad idea.

Cascara Coffee Roastery opened in 2017 in Snagov and is, since then, providing beans to coffee shops in several cities in Romania. Recently, Bianca and Tiberiu, owners of Cascara, decided to make the move to Bucharest, by opening their coffee shop, with the help of Alin. Located on Calea Victoriei, the coffee shop is a flagship store promoting the results of all their efforts. They have various beans for the ones who enjoy filter coffee. The espresso lovers will enjoy seeing the preparation of their favourite drink on a Modbar, giving more transparency than ever in the way the barista prepares it. 

They have a nice selection of coffee beans, but the pastries are also something which makes Cascara special. The only thing I can tell is that you should definitely give it a try.

For a lot of people, eating a pizza seems like having some basic comfort food. This happens until you try a pizza from PizzaMania. Each bite of their pizzas will make you understand that a lot of efforts have been put together for you to have a moment of culinary pleasure. Think only about the dough, which is usually what people judge to determine whether or not a pizza is a good one. At PizzaMania, they let the dough rest for 26 hours at least, ensuring a delicious and light taste. They cover the dough with high-quality product and let it in the oven for the perfect amount of time, offering a great result I can only recommend. Many people love this place, and they have many good reasons to do so.

Have you ever seen this little cute place located on Bd Lascar Catargiu?
Well, it is actually much more than a cute place, but a place where culinary miracles happen.

From delicious wraps to tasty cakes, not to forget their (vegan, of course) cheeseburger and Super Quinoa burger, there are plenty of yummy options meat lovers can't refuse. 

And guess what? The prices are really fair for what you get.

Have you ever stopped in this little bakery located in the northern part of Calea Victoriei, very close to Piata Victoriei? I think I've walked past this bakery hundreds of time before actually entering in the shop, wondering if my belly would get positively rewarded or not. However, I recently got the opportunity to give it a try, rushing from a meeting to another, allowing myself to take a 15-minute lunch break.

First reaction? Andreea F is a 'Patiserie fina artizanala', and you have the proof when you see the quiches and croissants displayed in front of your eyes. It looks like it was made at home, and the nice smell confirms it. 

Second reaction? The colors of the pastries want you to order some more.

After a couple of seconds of hesitation, here I come, ordering a combo "quiche - pastry" (and a croissant too, but that remains between us). 

Getting out of the store, I found a bench where to enjoy my lunch break, far from the noise made by the cars passing by. 

Conclusion? Give it a try and you'll thank me later.

Every year, there is a summer hit! You know, the song that everyone ends up listening all the time from May until the end of September. Well, Velocita is a bit like a summer hit. It is the place we don't even need to introduce to anyone. 
Long story short, they opened, and the next day, half of Bucharest was queuing in order to get a gelato. The only difference between Velocita and a summer hit is that a summer hit's lifetime equals to one season, while we know Velocita will be in our hearts for a while. Velocita, the true love of many generations?
PS: Consider going to Velocita in winter as well. The Tiramisu and the coffee are damn good!

Opened by the Romanian microbrewery 'Zaganu', Fabrica de bere bună is a large craft beer bar opened on Calea Victoriei. Along their own beers, you'll find other good local beers served draft or bottle, from Hop hooligans to Ground Zero, but not only. Not only, as Clarks comes crashing the party with their natural not-too-sweet exquisite Cider. Coming from a land of cider (a.k.a Normandy), this is a cider I can vouch for. So what were we talking about... Oh ah, wait, yes beer. But not only, as you can find some useful appetizers / tapas to go with your fresh bubbly beverage. Bonus for the one who like to look at the people passing by the street from a higher point of view, but still are a bit afraid from heights: you can have a sit in front of their big windows overlooking Calea Victoriei from the first floor. Or to be looked at, depending on what you're into.

A little coffee roastery in the heart of Bucharest...

Uzina exists since several years as the roastery, but they decided to make the big move to open their own coffee shop Piata Amzei in 2020, in order to be closer to their customers and of course to get more visibility. 

But Uzina is quickly becoming much more than a coffee shop and roastery. The place is hosting concerts almost every evening in sunny days. Go for a coffee, leave with some craft beer in your belly, and nice memories in your head.

Crocant is one of these outstanding places in town, with many nice things, but I am trying to figure out what I should mention first? Probably their cakes and biscuits, being all exposed at the food counter, that you might look for a couple of minutes before deciding what to order. Then, you'll see that they have a breakfast and brunch menu. I can only suggest that you come several time to decide what you like most, because so far, I enjoyed literally everything. Coffee lovers, you'll be served with some coffee from Guido, and the people looking for some sparkles can opt for some of the trendy lemonades, sodas and craft beer. Not to forget, Crocant is not only a nice brunch place, but it is also a bakery, in case you're looking for some good bread for home.

Are you fed up with giving your money away to the big guys, in exchange of the lowest quality bread? If yes, you and I have found each other (BFFs!). Like me, your anti-capitalist instincts may want to overthrow the system sometimes. But hold on, there's an easier (and tastier alternative). 

Go to Miez! Open since 2016, the place offers authentic handmade products crafted with expertise and passion. Bread, pastries, they all taste unique. If Amzei’s area is known as a pleasant area where to find proper groceries, it’s also thanks to Miez.

8 in the morning, you just woke up with one thought in mind: treating yourself with a nice breakfast. Or wait no, you just left the club Eden instead, it was a long night of partying... And your tummy is screaming 'feed me'. Well, in both case simply follow the white rabbit by clicking on "Go there".

Most of the time, coffee shop owners are former baristas who acquire enough knowledge and have to desire to manage their own place. Sometimes, it is about a customer who sees an added-value in opening a coffee shop while being novice in preparing coffee (and asks for help to his barista friends). Saint Roastery is the story of a couple. who has spend the last couple of years traveling around the world, to discover all the aspects of coffee, from the farm to the cup, from Africa to America. Saint Roastery is the result of their research and experiences, being both a roastery and a coffee shop, both located in the same place. The place is spacious, the owners are friendly, and of course, the coffee is good. Amen.

Say "howdy" to Le Bab Fried Chicken - Amzei, the spot to go for lip-smackingly good comfort food. Its well-rounded and vegetarian-friendly menu is tinged with a kick of adventure, notably their standout cauliflower dishes. Their cauliflower spice Korean wings have made people swoon, with their mega crunch and carefully balanced flavors; sauce served on the side – a wisdom that ensures they sustain their crispiness. Be sure to relish the deliciousness of their dirty fries, overloaded with cheese, saucy goodness, bacon and fiery jalapenos. Choose from a variety of refreshments that pair perfectly with your meal. "Cafelier" sounds like a french translation for "barista". It definitely refers to a coffee professional, and this is what the place aims to achieve by roasting their own coffee on Lascar Catargiu boulevard, next to Piata Romana. The place is also a coffee shop offering a spacious design inside and a little terrace in front of the shop. We particularly like the friendly staff. Congrats on the opening!

Mexican cuisine, using Romanian products only. Nothing was imported from Mexico, besides some of the equipment used to cook amazing dishes. Yes, it helps reducing a place's carbon-footprint, and yes, it tastes great! Tacos lovers have a new place to add in their to-do-list, when being in western Bucharest. 

M.A.T stands for "Masa Artisanal Taqueria" for the ones who are still wondering why "M.A.T".

About the design? Somewhat minimalist, somewhat rustic, but definitely well done! Congrats to the chefs, Alexandru Iacob and Cristi Dăscăleanu, and the rest of the team.

Still waiting for the "bacania" part to be installed and ready to operate, but what a great place to enjoy some drinks and some food with friends. A quiet but cozy atmosphere, even while being only two steps away from the noisy Piata Romana.

This is Bacania Veche's third location, and the concept remains the same: tasty, savoury and honest food" that reminds you of the taste of childhood.

That's not all, there is a wonderful selection of craft beers and wines too!

L'Atelier offers one of the finest menu for French cuisine amateurs in Bucharest. The meals are prepared by Samuel Le Torriellec and his team, in a cozy haut de gamme atmosphere, at the entrance of Epoque Hotel, near Cismigiu. You'll also be impressed by the selection of wines mostly from Romania and France, but also from Italy, Chile, Moldova or Spain.

A hidden place, yet often with full terrace.

Ever After is Suento and Gram Bistro's little brother. Once thing is sure, their menu is so appealing that it was actually hard for me to decide what to take. The good thing is that my first two experiences were so positive that I may come back often to try the whole menu.

What to expect? Colorful dishes, salad, vegetarian and vegan dishes, but not only. 

Their cocktails are also appealing, but I let you get on their Instagram page to see it by yourself.

Finally, it feels good to sit somewhere near a park, far away from the traffic, while enjoying some good time with friends.

You've probably heard about ViceCream, as their ice cream were already present in a decent amount of nice locations and events in the past months. ViceCream has now its own shop, on Strada George Enescu, and it's definitely worth visiting. 

It's all about natural ingredients, and made in small quantities, to guarantee an unique and fresh product.

Eating ice cream is not a vice.

Camera din Fata is one of these tiny places with such a cozy atmosphere, where people go to spend some real quality time together around a table. Friends, couples and families meet there, in order to enjoy a cup of tea or two. They also have a selection of coffee beans from several countries in the world. A perfect getaway from the city centre's crowd, by staying in the centre.

Friddi is more than an ice cream shop. I'll call it a gelato and sorbetto lab, where ice cream is produced on the spot, with fresh Romanian milk and cream, pistachios from Sicily, single origin chocolate from Africa or South America, and obviously fresh fruits.

The place is open from 8 am until midnight, which gives you the opportunity to get your gelato with specialty coffee from Origo for the early birds, and a glass of prosecco with your favourite cup of ice cream fo the ones desiring to have a nice evening out with friends.

Located in the "main square" of the recently build office building the Landmark, its terrace is to become one of the nicest spots to chill with friends.

Many say that French Revolution is the place where the eclairs are actually better than in France. Hardly believable, some would say. But I can assure you never had I so much pleasure eating an eclair before going to French Revolution. On top of eclairs, they now also provide excellent specialty coffee from Origo. Not the worst combo for a sweet break.

Amis de la Fete (Party Friends) is the ideal location to have a raclette in Bucharest, prepared directly at the Fromagerie, in front of your eyes. 

Yes, a raclette is usually something the French and the Swiss enjoy together with friends, with a view over the Alps (works also with the Carpathian mountains). We'll skip the view this time, but the great time spent with family and friends will still remain. Do not hesitate to get a glass of wine (or two). If you are a white wine lover, I recommend the Apremont, from the Savoie region. You prefer red, well, simply ask for the Rouge de Savoie. 

Not feeling like having a raclette? Look at the 'vitrina', and you'll find a great assortment of French cheese to bring home.

Fromagerie Amis de la Fête

M60 is the place who got created in an area surrounded by the best hotels in town. Guess why? These hotels don't even serve specialty coffee. You can also go there for breakfast, lunch, or grab a beer in the evening. M60 is the favourite place of freelancers, as it has quite a lot of space, plugs, and comfortable chairs and table to give the possibility to someone to stay hours while being productive on his tasks.

It's all about wine!

I didn't expect such a wide range of Romanian and European wines, they claim 500 references. Being also a wine store, you just have to add 30 lei on any bottle to have it served at your table, enabling you to enjoy world class wines at cellar price. The menu seems appetizing though I've only tried a delicious platter of well-selected Romanian cheese. 

Fancy yet casual, service was top notch, so there's no point to drink home anymore!

GastroLab - Wine & Food Experience

The #FrenchBoulangerie movement is finally approaching the city centre. A couple of years ago, having a delicious French croissant or baguette was something that was mostly accessible to the people living in the Northern part of the city. But Pain Plaisir's new opening near Magheru boulevard changes the croissant game, and this is a good news for bread and cakes lovers.

Atipic is a small cafe located behind ASE, near Piata Romana. Bianca, who used to work at the same place when it was called Boiler, took over the coffee shop and now serves coffee from Colonna.

There are many reasons why Salon Golescu deserves to be on this map. I think we should start talking about the quality of the service, ensuring you to spend a nice evening. You can only expect politeness and relevant advices, and it really feels good to be served by some of the most professionals waiters in town.

I agree, with good service should come delicious products. Well... You will particularly admire the selection of whiskeys, rums, gins, and other spirits on their menu. Not into consuming alcohol the "hard" way? There are many cocktails options, tasty local craft beer and a nice wine list.

 I also suggest you to get seduced by the food options.

Salon Golescu

The local specialty coffee community has been waiting for this place to open for a long time. Let me tell you why...

Andrei Clenciu (the legend), who's been serving for the army, is a true specialty coffee lover who dedicated some serious time learning and improving his skills as a home-barista over the past five years. Quite confident with his brewing skills (and a little push from a barista friend), Andrei decided to participate in coffee competitions, and guess what? He actually made it.

Here is his CV in coffee competitions: Romania Comandante Cup Winner in 2018, Romania Comandante Cup Third place in 2019, Semi-finalist at the Austrian Aeropress championship. The list will probably get a bit longer in the near future.

Opening a coffee shop became evident, and this is how Perfect Simplu was born. 

Perfect Simplu, located near Cismigiu park, serves coffees from four different roasteries. It is one of the ideal places for people who enjoy filter coffee.

When you enter in the shop, you will quickly realize Andrei's passion for coffee. He's experiencing some sample roasting on a little roasting machine (called Ikawa), he built his own brewing equipment, and more. 

You'll also love the coffee cups, designed by Ceramical, and very importantly, you will really adore Andrei's enthusiasm and smile.

Also, you may spot Brancusi's "Coloana Infinitului" in Perfect Simplu's logo. Andrei is originally from Targu Jiu, this explains it all.

Last but not least, Perfect Simplu would probably not exist without Romina. Andrei's wife was the first person to try Andrei's first brews many years ago... and without her constant feedback, he wouldn't have been that good at brewing coffee ;)

Resale might be a small second-hand by it size, but it does host a nice selection of second-hand for those who are looking for something else than some more H&M copy-paste. Worth mentioning: they sell their items per kilogram.

The historical French Revolution shop, in front of the Romanian Atheneum, is the perfect sweet refuel place for the ones walking in the center of Bucharest. The choices are the same than at French Revolution Victoriei, but I truely advice you to go ther quite early if you want to make sure you find what you need. Officially closing at 8pm during weekends, French Revolution usually manage to sell all its eclairs at 6pm, tho. Has to be tasty, right?

In the rather hipsterish Bucharest bar scene, the intimate Beat Bar has a soul of its own. Relocated in 2017 from the Jewish district and in 2023 from the more central Vasile Lascar to Calea Plevnei, Beat Bar has kept intact its unique bohemian vibe, a blend of cultural references that go from the Beat poets to classic French cinema, with a touch of jazz and other alternative music. 

Here, the playlist is open to everyone, and you’ll soon find yourself starting a discussion with a stranger, local or traveller, drinking the night away at a screening of some edgy arthouse movie, at an occasional pop-up yard sale (vinyls, sneakers), or during one of its many concerts, poetry nights or jam sessions. Beat has a deliberately laid-back avant-garde vibe, thanks to Alexandra, the owner, who’ll happily switch to French to chat about Serge Gainsbourg or the Nouvelle Vague. Just grab a Zaganu or a house cocktail (Culoarea Rodiei, Applesinth, Rum in Flames), head for the terrace, and experience the unique feeling of being somewhat totally disconnected from Bucharest.

BEAT bar umanist

One thing's certain, compare to many other capitals, Bucharest lacks cinemas and cultural centers promoting independent movies. While (too) many people prefer to spend their time watching blockbusters in cinemas located in shopping malls, the Romanian Peasant Museum proposes a great selection of mostly independent Romanian and foreign movies. 
If you are lucky, you can also enjoy the local products which are sold outside before or after the movie. And of course, the museum in itself is worth visiting too.

Caju is a brasserie created by famous chef Joseph Hadad with a desire to bring his own childhood culinary memories to the people of Bucharest. Born in Israel from a Moroccan mother and a Tunisian father, he got influenced by the cuisine from his place of birth, but also by the way his parents were preparing dished. After having spent most of his career working in some of the most prestigious hotels in Paris, London or Berlin, Hadad came to Bucharest to pursue his career at Casa Vernescu.

A looooong list of delicious pastries, all nicely dressed at the counter. Going there alone will force you to have a long reflexion before taking your decision, as all the tarts look tastier than the last. However, going with some friends might be the best option for the ones willing to taste a bit of everything, following with a discussion about what each likes the most (and eventually doing a last minute plate exchange). Anyway, Atelierul de Tarte got you covered: pistachio, chocolate, orange, cream, lemon, biscuits, meringue, this is just a few examples about the tarts you'll find there. MABO ONE - Specialty Coffee Shop

Already worth a visit, yet promising.

Ateliere Malmaison is an intriguing name for an artists workshop. It is also sort of a game to find the entrance through the garden surrounding the former garrison. (FYI, once you entered from calea Plevnei, go on your left, and the entrance will be on the side of the building). 

The building in itself is interesting but the project even more! The place hosts twenty-something (actually probably more, and growing) artists studios and exhibitions are being organized in several rooms, some being pieces of work designed by the artists working there, and some other exhibitions promoting other curated works. There were 3 exhibitions when I went there, all the artists were welcoming and eager to talk about their work. Note that the studios are not open to the public (unless specified in advance on Social Media), but if you get along with one of them, who knows what you'll discover?

Malmaison Studios

Near the British Embassy, Orygyns is the perfect place for coffee lovers who don’t necessarily have the time to go all over the world to try coffee from different roasteries. Indeed, Orygyns usually selects one new provider each month, offering specialty coffee for their customers. It guarantees a different experience quite regularly, and it is also a nice way to make people travel, even when they are in their own city.

Two Bastards can be introduced in a couple of words: "The home of Csiki Sor in Bucharest." Wait... What? You haven't heard about Csiki Sor yet? Well, it's THE craft beer from Harghita, brewed in Csíkszentsimon, and distributed in Transylvania, in Hungary, in some parts of Serbia and Slovakia with hungarian minorities, and now in our lovely city.

The bar also offers various cocktails and wines, and some food. Stay tuned for the Gullyas Parties ;)

Two Bastards Pub

Romania's craft beer scene boomed in the last few years, some of the brands being already considered iconic. However, many other micro-breweries are doing a good job all over the country, and the right way to know most of them is to go to The Beer Institute, the first shop dedicated only to local craft beers. More than 100 different brands available in the shop, but there is also the possibility to enjoy a fresh beer at the bar.

A great bakery, but not only. Blitz'n'Roll provides delicious pizzas by the the slice, specialty coffee from Nomonym, tasty pastries such as Pasteis de Nata and artisanal juices. The perfect place for a quick lunch break at a very decent price.

Let’s face it, Blvd Magheru is a drag. But in typical Bucharest fashion, there sometimes are flowers amidst the concrete, or a quiet oasis just a few steps away from the noise. Tucked under (and behind) the beautiful Carturești bookstore, Cafe Verona is a 2-sided retreat: a basement cafe to hibernate-read-work during winter, and an outdoor garden where the trendies wind down when days get warmer. 

Both serve a good mix of fresh, mostly healthy food. The cafe is a perfect shelter from the bustling winter storms, a quiet, comfy brick basement designed with taste and decorated with photographs by local artists, serving a wide range of teas, hot chocolates — and pretty damn good desserts. When the cold days are over, it’s the season of the Gradina, a garden of delights that blossoms with Bucharest’s beautiful people. Though it tends to get crowded fast, it’s a choice destination for reconnecting with your senses. If you’re a lemonade freak, they’ll have you covered with an impressive choice of original flavors. Also make sure to check their week-long or weekend culinary events, a great occasion to taste fine foods and wines brought by producers from all over Romania in a cool atmosphere. 

Café Verona

Saola is a small coffee shop on Piata Kogalniceanu, serving coffee from Origo in some wonderful cups, with a selection of chocolates from Domori and a large choice of gelatos from Friddi in sunny days. Doru will most probably be behind the bar, ready to pull some coffee shots for you.

Located next to GrabIt, the Wagyu beef pastrami bar, I usually end up going to both places. You got it, first, take a pastrami sandwich at GrabIt, and end up with a nice cup of coffee at Saola -and an ice cream - before going back to your daily activities.

First of all, please note that Artichoke is most probably the favorite café among instagramers in Bucharest. The café is located at the end of an archway, near Kretzulescu Church and the Humanitas Library. Diana Anghel, owner of the place, expresses there her love for plants and modernist architecture. That's how Artichoke became this mix between modernist and minimalist, linked with a touch of green. The jungle of Artichoke continuously hosts art exhibitions, usually showcasing local artists between two leaves. Good coffee in a tasteful decor makes people often refer to it as a cozy cocoon, where you end up spending an entire afternoon catching up with your close ones.

Opened in a area going through an active revivification, Consignatia 7 decided to set foot in Strada George Vraca, besieged by a recent invasion of specialty coffee shops and party places. Being one of the cutest second-hand around with a good curation on what they have to offer, a visit at Consignatia 7 fits perfectly in a lazy and sunny week-end afternoon, strolling around the streets neighboring the Parcul Cismigiu.
