Vintage is sometimes more of a posture than anything else, but definitely not at Dianei. Nested in an old bourgeois house from the late 19th century, Dianei 4 bears witness to the complicated history of Bucharest, including being once home to the Foreign Intelligence Service HQ. But the team behind its revamping has turned it into a modern day classic among Bucharest bars, which happens to serve one of the best brunches in town, hands down. Food is fresh and healthy, the coffee comes from Origo, craft beer and rums are top notch, the gin menu unique, making Dianei a top pick in central Bucharest. In winter, its warm interior will keep you safe, and when the days get warmer and longer, its shady terrace makes it an all-time favorite for laid-back night gatherings. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot the local cat Vivi watching over you from the roof. The team at Dianei also operate the iVy specialty coffee on the neighboring Piata Rosetti, if you’re looking for a great shot on the go. Oh, did I mention the gulas is awesome?
