The #FrenchBoulangerie movement is finally approaching the city centre. A couple of years ago, having a delicious French croissant or baguette was something that was mostly accessible to the people living in the Northern part of the city. But Pain Plaisir's new opening near Magheru boulevard changes the croissant game, and this is a good news for bread and cakes lovers.

M60 is the place who got created in an area surrounded by the best hotels in town. Guess why? These hotels don't even serve specialty coffee. You can also go there for breakfast, lunch, or grab a beer in the evening. M60 is the favourite place of freelancers, as it has quite a lot of space, plugs, and comfortable chairs and table to give the possibility to someone to stay hours while being productive on his tasks.

Amis de la Fete (Party Friends) is the ideal location to have a raclette in Bucharest, prepared directly at the Fromagerie, in front of your eyes. 

Yes, a raclette is usually something the French and the Swiss enjoy together with friends, with a view over the Alps (works also with the Carpathian mountains). We'll skip the view this time, but the great time spent with family and friends will still remain. Do not hesitate to get a glass of wine (or two). If you are a white wine lover, I recommend the Apremont, from the Savoie region. You prefer red, well, simply ask for the Rouge de Savoie. 

Not feeling like having a raclette? Look at the 'vitrina', and you'll find a great assortment of French cheese to bring home.

A hidden place, yet often with full terrace.

Ever After is Suento and Gram Bistro's little brother. Once thing is sure, their menu is so appealing that it was actually hard for me to decide what to take. The good thing is that my first two experiences were so positive that I may come back often to try the whole menu.

What to expect? Colorful dishes, salad, vegetarian and vegan dishes, but not only. 

Their cocktails are also appealing, but I let you get on their Instagram page to see it by yourself.

Finally, it feels good to sit somewhere near a park, far away from the traffic, while enjoying some good time with friends.

You've probably heard about ViceCream, as their ice cream were already present in a decent amount of nice locations and events in the past months. ViceCream has now its own shop, on Strada George Enescu, and it's definitely worth visiting. 

It's all about natural ingredients, and made in small quantities, to guarantee an unique and fresh product.

I've heard so many people in my life telling me how much they love donuts (Berliner for our German friends). I was always answering with a "yeah, whatever, I'd rather get an ice cream".

But recently, some friends really insisted to motivate me to go to try that place hidden between Calea Victoriei and Cismigiu Park. I kept my scepticism high for some weeks, until I got to the point where I felt like having something sweet, while being in that exact area.

I got in, looked at the different "berliners" displayed in front of my eyes, and went for that 'fistic' one... It was so good! I didn't know someone could put the Donut game to that level. They've made it.

The local specialty coffee community has been waiting for this place to open for a long time. Let me tell you why...

Andrei Clenciu (the legend), who's been serving for the army, is a true specialty coffee lover who dedicated some serious time learning and improving his skills as a home-barista over the past five years. Quite confident with his brewing skills (and a little push from a barista friend), Andrei decided to participate in coffee competitions, and guess what? He actually made it.

Here is his CV in coffee competitions: Romania Comandante Cup Winner in 2018, Romania Comandante Cup Third place in 2019, Semi-finalist at the Austrian Aeropress championship. The list will probably get a bit longer in the near future.

Opening a coffee shop became evident, and this is how Perfect Simplu was born. 

Perfect Simplu, located near Cismigiu park, serves coffees from four different roasteries. It is one of the ideal places for people who enjoy filter coffee.

When you enter in the shop, you will quickly realize Andrei's passion for coffee. He's experiencing some sample roasting on a little roasting machine (called Ikawa), he built his own brewing equipment, and more. 

You'll also love the coffee cups, designed by Ceramical, and very importantly, you will really adore Andrei's enthusiasm and smile.

Also, you may spot Brancusi's "Coloana Infinitului" in Perfect Simplu's logo. Andrei is originally from Targu Jiu, this explains it all.

Last but not least, Perfect Simplu would probably not exist without Romina. Andrei's wife was the first person to try Andrei's first brews many years ago... and without her constant feedback, he wouldn't have been that good at brewing coffee ;)

Have you ever stopped in this little bakery located in the northern part of Calea Victoriei, very close to Piata Victoriei? I think I've walked past this bakery hundreds of time before actually entering in the shop, wondering if my belly would get positively rewarded or not. However, I recently got the opportunity to give it a try, rushing from a meeting to another, allowing myself to take a 15-minute lunch break.

First reaction? Andreea F is a 'Patiserie fina artizanala', and you have the proof when you see the quiches and croissants displayed in front of your eyes. It looks like it was made at home, and the nice smell confirms it. 

Second reaction? The colors of the pastries want you to order some more.

After a couple of seconds of hesitation, here I come, ordering a combo "quiche - pastry" (and a croissant too, but that remains between us). 

Getting out of the store, I found a bench where to enjoy my lunch break, far from the noise made by the cars passing by. 

Conclusion? Give it a try and you'll thank me later.

When it comes to fashion, you feel more confortable with specific years. The years of your teenage time? The years that brought memories? Or simply the ressurection of some trends ?

You may also have that jacket or sweatshirt that you wish could last forever, or that could be part of a recurring selection.. But it is what it is, clothes get old and brands introduce you to new line-ups each year.

Hopefully vintage shops are here to bring gems from the past.

"Check Vintage and More" is a good place to find such oldies but goldies. They provide major brands, sorted by color which make it easier for you to find your next favorite piece of cloth. 

There is also a great selection of brand new jeans and pants from older collections. If you're a Levi's fan for example, that's the place.

Accessories such as belts, some jewels and shoes are also available.

If you're lucky enough, you might even find that old hoody or tracksuit from your favorite obscure football team.

Shopron Gelato & Coffee is the ideal place for a gelato break before enjoying a walk in Kiseleff Park, serving ice-cream from Sweetology, as well as other sweets and savoury options for the ones desiring a quick snack. You can also find some seats in front of the shop if you want to enjoy your purchase on the spot.

Already worth a visit, yet promising.

Ateliere Malmaison is an intriguing name for an artists workshop. It is also sort of a game to find the entrance through the garden surrounding the former garrison. (FYI, once you entered from calea Plevnei, go on your left, and the entrance will be on the side of the building). 

The building in itself is interesting but the project even more! The place hosts twenty-something (actually probably more, and growing) artists studios and exhibitions are being organized in several rooms, some being pieces of work designed by the artists working there, and some other exhibitions promoting other curated works. There were 3 exhibitions when I went there, all the artists were welcoming and eager to talk about their work. Note that the studios are not open to the public (unless specified in advance on Social Media), but if you get along with one of them, who knows what you'll discover?

Neighbourhood wine expert! Located a little south of Unirii, this wine shop has a small but accurate hand picked selection of wines with an emphasis on small wineries, from entry level to top notch vintage wines. 

The owner knows very well what he's selling and can provide you lots of insights. You also can just describe what you like in wine, he will provide.

They regularly organize wine tastings. Keep an eye on their Facebook page to stay connected.

Sometimes you walk in without expectations and just get caught.

Soro Lume did that to me, what an experience.

First, the menu is short, but provides a lot of diversity, from vegan to fish through meat. You will only find signature dishes and I'm definitely planning to test it all.

Second, if you have the chance to eat, facing the open kitchen outside, witnessing dishes being prepared with wood fire, from grill to oven. Raw elements perfectly cooked separately and then gathered by the chef in ceramic plates. Simple but very well executed. Top notch detail : the bread is baked in the oven on demand

Third, the wine selection is as great as the music playlist. Expect lautari, and other balkanic vibes.

Let me be vocal about it, Soro Lume is definitely one of my best food experience in Bucharest.

Spoiler alert! This is not your typical place!

I moved to Romania 5 years ago. Since then, finding delicious local cheese felt like a perpetual challenging journey, not being seduced by the regular Cascaval and Telemea -yet-. Of course, I found good cheese on the way, in some remote villages, but it was hard to maintain that relationship with the farmer and enjoy these lovely cheese when being in Bucharest. I went to several "Piata" and "Bacania", looked for all the cheese stands, tried most of the aged cheese available, but never found that top quality I was able to find in the villages.

However, very recently, some friends told me to go to the Local Farmer's Market on Bd Unirii and go to the cheese stand, as they have great products. And what a surprise! I can tell for sure that the best Romanian cheese I've ever had comes from this place, and going there became part of my weekly routine.

Amidst the unbeatable location (on the upper terrace of the old hall), the charm of this place skyrockets when you bring snacks from the market to accompany your drinks. Introducing Pain Plaisir - Carol Park, the newest bakery in town! Located at the entrance of Parcul Carol, this is the first bakery to open in the south of the city. Indulge in their delicious ready-to-eat options, like quiches, or grab some fresh croissants and a loaf of bread to enjoy at home. And the best part? Pain Plaisir has a lovely terrace where you can sit and savor your treats.

They offer great service and the products are delish and tender. You don't need to go all the way to the northern part of the city for good bread or a croissant, Sectorul 4 has its own hidden gem. Beans&Dots opened its third location at the heart of Primaverii, in MARe's (Muzeul de Artă Recentă) premises!

Remember: Beans&Dots is heaven for the people who enjoy coffee from the beloved The Barn roastery in Berlin. The super friendly team is here to offer you a great shot of rocket fuel with some quiches, cakes and biscuits in case you get hungry.

Real Foods is all about real food. Simple, right? All the products you can find will be carefully selected, in order for you to ensure you only get "real products" which are both tasty and healthy. Real Foods is a great concept for the people who don't want to lose time trying to find great products in typical grocery stores, but it is also for the ones who want to ensure they don't eat any harmful products for their health. Basically, Real Foods filters out what is good for you. You save time, and they ensure quality.

I have to admit that Domenii is one of my favorite neighborhoods for a sunny walk with a friend on a weekend. 

However, it was difficult to find a spot to drink a great cup of coffee in the area until Mad Goat made the move a couple of years ago. And now, guess what? Mad Goat has a neighbor serving specialty coffee drinks: Butter Coffee Shop!

I don't believe in the fact that having two specialty coffee shops in the same area means fierce competition. In contrary, it's a chance to build a specialty coffee hotspot that will bring people from all over the city to drink their fav cup of joe!

Here we are, discussing about "Butter". Butter has its nice sloped terrace (as all coffee shops which recently open in a former garage), and quite a big interior, proposing a nice selection of cakes. "Butter" serves coffee from Dropshot, and it's a pet-friendly location.

Boiler Coffee Shop has a new neighbor! A brand new "Bacania" and "sandwich shop" with an Italian twist, called Fresco Artigianale. Their sandwiches are legit, they have amazing Italian gelato, as well as other artisanal stuff you may want to bring with you back home.

Coffee at Boiler + Sandwich and ice cream at Fresco? I don't know what you think, but in my opinion, this sounds like the perfect combo for a great time in Eastern Bucharest.

Plescavița Sârbească is all about cevapi and... plescavita!

For those who are not familiar, cevapi is the Serbian equivalent of mici. Juicy and flavorful, these perfectly grilled meat sausages are served on fresh "somun"/"lepinja" bread, topped with ajvar and raw onions. It's a taste explosion that will leave you craving for more. It's not just any ordinary sandwich, trust my taste bud(dy)!

There are many reasons why Salon Golescu deserves to be on this map. I think we should start talking about the quality of the service, ensuring you to spend a nice evening. You can only expect politeness and relevant advices, and it really feels good to be served by some of the most professionals waiters in town.

I agree, with good service should come delicious products. Well... You will particularly admire the selection of whiskeys, rums, gins, and other spirits on their menu. Not into consuming alcohol the "hard" way? There are many cocktails options, tasty local craft beer and a nice wine list.

 I also suggest you to get seduced by the food options.

Mexican cuisine, using Romanian products only. Nothing was imported from Mexico, besides some of the equipment used to cook amazing dishes. Yes, it helps reducing a place's carbon-footprint, and yes, it tastes great! Tacos lovers have a new place to add in their to-do-list, when being in western Bucharest. 

M.A.T stands for "Masa Artisanal Taqueria" for the ones who are still wondering why "M.A.T".

About the design? Somewhat minimalist, somewhat rustic, but definitely well done! Congrats to the chefs, Alexandru Iacob and Cristi Dăscăleanu, and the rest of the team.

After having spent most of his career working in some of the most prestigious hotels in Paris, London or Berlin, Hadad came to Bucharest to pursue his career at Casa Vernescu.

Indeed, Orygyns usually selects one new provider each month, offering specialty coffee for their customers. Similarly to the Carturesti from the old center, you can find a cafe inside the building. A good place to stroll around its alleys and forget about how fast is time passing by.

Are you fed up with giving your money away to the big guys, in exchange of the lowest quality bread? If yes, you and I have found each other (BFFs!). Like me, your anti-capitalist instincts may want to overthrow the system sometimes. But hold on, there's an easier (and tastier alternative). 

Go to Miez! Open since 2016, the place offers authentic handmade products crafted with expertise and passion. Bread, pastries, they all taste unique. If Amzei’s area is known as a pleasant area where to find proper groceries, it’s also thanks to Miez.

8 in the morning, you just woke up with one thought in mind: treating yourself with a nice breakfast. Or wait no, you just left the club Eden instead, it was a long night of partying... And your tummy is screaming 'feed me'. Well, in both case simply follow the white rabbit by clicking on "Go there".

The historical French Revolution shop, in front of the Romanian Atheneum, is the perfect sweet refuel place for the ones walking in the center of Bucharest. The choices are the same than at French Revolution Victoriei, but I truely advice you to go ther quite early if you want to make sure you find what you need. Officially closing at 8pm during weekends, French Revolution usually manage to sell all its eclairs at 6pm, tho. Has to be tasty, right?

Let’s face it, Blvd Magheru is a drag. But in typical Bucharest fashion, there sometimes are flowers amidst the concrete, or a quiet oasis just a few steps away from the noise. Tucked under (and behind) the beautiful Carturești bookstore, Cafe Verona is a 2-sided retreat: a basement cafe to hibernate-read-work during winter, and an outdoor garden where the trendies wind down when days get warmer. 

Both serve a good mix of fresh, mostly healthy food. The cafe is a perfect shelter from the bustling winter storms, a quiet, comfy brick basement designed with taste and decorated with photographs by local artists, serving a wide range of teas, hot chocolates — and pretty damn good desserts. When the cold days are over, it’s the season of the Gradina, a garden of delights that blossoms with Bucharest’s beautiful people. Though it tends to get crowded fast, it’s a choice destination for reconnecting with your senses. If you’re a lemonade freak, they’ll have you covered with an impressive choice of original flavors. Also make sure to check their week-long or weekend culinary events, a great occasion to taste fine foods and wines brought by producers from all over Romania in a cool atmosphere.

You feel kind of Alice when you enter Mara Mura, not only because of its british tearoom vibes, but also thanks to the truly wonders you can find. 

Freshly made cheesecakes, millefeuilles, canelés, éclairs, pavlovas, to name a few...Once you're in you're trapped, it's impossible to choose only one cake, not to mention the variety of tartlets..And if you're really hungry or need a cake for a special occasion, they also serve larger cakes on the spot or on demand.

Nested in the gourmand strada Golescu, you can also enjoy these delicacies at the terrace along with a hot beverage. Often busy during weekends, you might need to be patient before being served. But trust me, it's worth waiting.

Mara Mura

A little coffee roastery in the heart of Bucharest...

Uzina exists since several years as the roastery, but they decided to make the big move to open their own coffee shop Piata Amzei in 2020, in order to be closer to their customers and of course to get more visibility. 

But Uzina is quickly becoming much more than a coffee shop and roastery. The place is hosting concerts almost every evening in sunny days. Go for a coffee, leave with some craft beer in your belly, and nice memories in your head.

Do you know the Ice Cream Boyz? Ice Cream and Cakes? Well, if not, it is ok, Sweetology also offers both. They have a selection of different cheese cakes, which doesn't mean that you will have a Burduf cheese cake, no worries, but more like different toppings with the cheese cake base. For the ice cream lovers, we honestly fell in love with their salted caramel ice cream, but please keep it for yourself. Another great thing about Sweetology is that you can go there til 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Cozy coffee shop on Calea Victoriei, with a large variety of coffees from Gardelli, a world award winning roastery based in Italy. Nice selection of lemonades, belgian beers and other refreshing drinks. Special crush for the desserts and the nice design too.

Every year, there is a summer hit! You know, the song that everyone ends up listening all the time from May until the end of September. Well, Velocita is a bit like a summer hit. It is the place we don't even need to introduce to anyone. 
Long story short, they opened, and the next day, half of Bucharest was queuing in order to get a gelato. The only difference between Velocita and a summer hit is that a summer hit's lifetime equals to one season, while we know Velocita will be in our hearts for a while. Velocita, the true love of many generations?
PS: Consider going to Velocita in winter as well. The Tiramisu and the coffee are damn good!

VELOCITA

Opened by the Romanian microbrewery 'Zaganu', Fabrica de bere bună is a large craft beer bar opened on Calea Victoriei. Along their own beers, you'll find other good local beers served draft or bottle, from Hop hooligans to Ground Zero, but not only. Not only, as Clarks comes crashing the party with their natural not-too-sweet exquisite Cider. Coming from a land of cider (a.k.a Normandy), this is a cider I can vouch for. So what were we talking about... Oh ah, wait, yes beer. But not only, as you can find some useful appetizers / tapas to go with your fresh bubbly beverage. Bonus for the one who like to look at the people passing by the street from a higher point of view, but still are a bit afraid from heights: you can have a sit in front of their big windows overlooking Calea Victoriei from the first floor. Or to be looked at, depending on what you're into.

Sloane Coffee Shop is actually much more than "a" coffee shop. It is a true flagship store, promoting a large selection of amazing beans roasted at the four years old (Sloane) roastery. You will have the chance to chose between dozens of different types of coffee, for filter or for espresso that you will be able to enjoy at the terrace, in THE trendiest area of Bucharest.

And obviously, with great coffee comes great design and customer service.

Lente loves art. Lente loves animation (they’re partners of the awesome Anim’Est festival). And Lente loves even more street artists, as its walls, both indoors and outdoors, will confirm. This is Lente’s third and latest 'living room', an artsy haven tucked away on the lovely Dionisie Lupu street, a few minutes away from Piata Romana. This is a place with an open mind and open doors (they welcome kids, pets and bikes) that feels like home.

Again, seasons matter. In winter, you’ll find comfort in this old bourgeois house where the attic has been turned into a heaven for board games (there’s over 100 of them for you to binge). 
In summer, the terrace takes over, home to some cool wall painting events and outdoor djing.  Their Asian woks are pretty rad, but if you’re a burger scientist, head to Lente on Wednesdays and try to convince the chef your recipe is worth a try, you may get to leave your mark on their future menu.


Lente Dionisie Lupu

Bucharest and more generally Romania, have a strong and very powerful art history and some places such as Galateca Gallery are here to show that the tradition continues. Conscient of that heritage, the architect Radu Teaca founded the gallery where decades of exhbitions followed one another since the place opened in 2012.  Space of creation particularly active, Galateca has seen succeed various artists from Romania and abroad, all linked around the idea of a  "Romanian Art Energy".  Danse, painting, happening, drawing or sculpture are just few example of what  happened and what it is still presenting there. The same way, Victor Fonta, Frederic Liwer or  Hirotoshi Ito are just few very talented artists  among others  that exhibited their work at the gallery.
Ideally located in Bucharest, close to the Atheum, the National Art Museum or very nice bars and restaurants, Galeteca quickly became one of my favourite art place in town.

Cascara Coffee Roastery opened in 2017 in Snagov and is, since then, providing beans to coffee shops in several cities in Romania. Recently, Bianca and Tiberiu, owners of Cascara, decided to make the move to Bucharest, by opening their coffee shop, with the help of Alin. Located on Calea Victoriei, the coffee shop is a flagship store promoting the results of all their efforts. They have various beans for the ones who enjoy filter coffee. The espresso lovers will enjoy seeing the preparation of their favourite drink on a Modbar, giving more transparency than ever in the way the barista prepares it. 

They have a nice selection of coffee beans, but the pastries are also something which makes Cascara special. The only thing I can tell is that you should definitely give it a try.

Livrez Fericire is providing great choux a la creme to Bucharest since a while now. However, they recently opened a paradise for Choux lovers, straight in the city center, and that place is called Love You Choux. 
Their choux are stuffed with cream from different flavors. It is sweet, but refined, and will definitely not let anyone completely indifferent. 

They also provide specialty coffee from Dropshot and a couple of lemonades and juices. Inviting your crush there might not be a bad idea.

A popular place during hot summer evenings, Shift Pub is known for its proximity to Piața Romană. Hidden inside a courtyard, the place could be seen as a beer garden in the summer, a pub or a cozy bistro. While the seating downstairs looks rather formal, upstairs you can find more cozy spots nicely designed. Their selection of drinks and especially wine is a must-try, and their diverse menu offers veggie options too. 

It can get really crowded during the evenings, so be sure to book a table if you want to eat there. As for recommendations, I would really suggest the zucchini with cream cheese and the white chocolate cake!

A tasty vegan burger? It that really possible?

Yes, Coolinart can make it happen. The burger is vegan and juicy in fact, accompanied with handmade fries. The perfect match, I tell you.

Not necessarily interested in eating burgers? Well, you will find avocados in all shapes, salads and smoothies, and more.

Not to mention that having a sunny terrace on Calea Victoriei, located at a reasonable distance from the road, reduces the cars noise, and will, therefore, make it one of your favorite places for brunch.

If you're looking for a friendly and welcoming place to unwind after work or on the weekend, Mosto is just what you need, offering an array of top-class natty wines and delicious food, all served with a side of passion.

The concept behind Mosto is simple: they prioritize less processed, natural products that are not only healthier but taste even better. With their extensive knowledge and love for wines, owners Michele, Andrea, Monica,and Nadina can guide both connoisseurs and newcomers alike through their impressive wine selection.

Designed as a cultural hub, Point has been shaking people’s conscience, supporting local artists, promoting contemporary arts, and offering a laboratory for new experiences. An ambitious mission, especially since they put the focus on cross-disciplinary works, while making it accessible to anyone and not only specialists. Ambitious, but necessary as those places are too rare in today's Bucharest. With the theater at the third floor, two spacious rooms and a garden, any cultural event happening there mobilizes as much curious people as intense art lovers, making each visit a source of inspiration for the visitors.
Being a national heritage building, the place combines perfectly the classical architecture with the inside's more modern look, revealing in a way what is Point all about.
Finally, if you are a little epicurean like me, you will hardly resist having a drink from the bar or a tasty meal from their kitchen, whatever was the original reason of your visit.

Crocant is one of these outstanding places in town, with many nice things, but I am trying to figure out what I should mention first? Probably their cakes and biscuits, being all exposed at the food counter, that you might look for a couple of minutes before deciding what to order. Then, you'll see that they have a breakfast and brunch menu. I can only suggest that you come several time to decide what you like most, because so far, I enjoyed literally everything. Coffee lovers, you'll be served with some coffee from Guido, and the people looking for some sparkles can opt for some of the trendy lemonades, sodas and craft beer. Not to forget, Crocant is not only a nice brunch place, but it is also a bakery, in case you're looking for some good bread for home.

Hey, clatite lover, what about trying pancakes, but the Russian way this time? 

The best way to explain you what a Russian pancake is about is to try it yourself. Just know that after one amazing salted pancake, you might feel quite full. But if you still feel like feeding your stomach with good food, there is an interesting sweet menu as well. 

We usually go for the pancake with cheese, lot of cheese.

If you wonder about the chef, just know that he is from Russia and he knows what he does. 

Brutal Russian Pancakes

"Cafelier" sounds like a french translation for "barista". It definitely refers to a coffee professional, and this is what the place aims to achieve by roasting their own coffee on Lascar Catargiu boulevard, next to Piata Romana. The place is also a coffee shop offering a spacious design inside and a little terrace in front of the shop. We particularly like the friendly staff. Congrats on the opening!

Cafelier

Romania's craft beer scene boomed in the last few years, some of the brands being already considered iconic. However, many other micro-breweries are doing a good job all over the country, and the right way to know most of them is to go to The Beer Institute, the first shop dedicated only to local craft beers. More than 100 different brands available in the shop, but there is also the possibility to enjoy a fresh beer at the bar.

You might have a heard about Londophone close to Cismigiu... Well you've found yourself a Londohome now. A good spot if you're a bit curious about Bucharest's music scene. Also a good occasion to chill on the terrace, under the cozy green leaves, and most likely with either a craft beer (Three Happy Brewers, Sikaru, Hop Hooligans...) or why not, an original craft cider from Clarks.

First of all, please note that Artichoke is most probably the favorite café among instagramers in Bucharest. The café is located at the end of an archway, near Kretzulescu Church and the Humanitas Library. Diana Anghel, owner of the place, expresses there her love for plants and modernist architecture. That's how Artichoke became this mix between modernist and minimalist, linked with a touch of green. The jungle of Artichoke continuously hosts art exhibitions, usually showcasing local artists between two leaves. Good coffee in a tasteful decor makes people often refer to it as a cozy cocoon, where you end up spending an entire afternoon catching up with your close ones.

It's been probably too long you didn't socialize, yet you got used to enjoy the perks of staying home. You might even not feel like going to crowded places. 

One step at a time, you can enjoy a drink sitting in a comfy armchair close to the fireplace, almost like home. Welcome to Ritzy, designed to host smooth conversations in small groups, it's the right place for casual chats with your close friends.

You can make it last for a little longer than a drink, as they also offer pizza, risotto and pasta, and the terrace is located on a quiet street.

RITZY sensory garden

Hop Hooligans, one of Romania's most notorious craft beer brewery, is now establishing its own chapel for craft beer hooligans. The mausoleum of their famous Crowd Control can be found there, where you can enjoy most of your after-works, evenings and weekends. Usually offering 15+ different draught craft beers, you can also try experimental and foreign beers in cans and bottles, that you can pick up directly from the fridges. Glad to see Romanian craft beer brewers having their dedicated taproom in town!

C22 is located in a dead-end street, sunny around noon, shady in the afternoon. The place has a bit of a Brooklyn movie atmosphere, and deserves to be enjoyed together with friends. 

A great hidden gem, "doi pasi" away from the glamorous Calea Victoriei.

Attached to the French Institute building in Bucharest, Elvire Popesco is a very popular cinema that usually premieres Romanian movies and hosts film festivals such as NexT, but also reunites the French community (hot guys alert -- i told them not to let me write this article) in Bucharest through conferences etc. Named after a very popular actress that was too pretty to live in Romania and wanted more followers so she went to Paris, this cinema features a very interesting movie selection (also late evening screenings for night owls).
This is a nice place for dates, of course, and nobody is going to spoil your romantic evening by loudly chewing popcorn behind you, because that's forbidden here.

Atipic is a small cafe located behind ASE, near Piata Romana. Bianca, who used to work at the same place when it was called Boiler, took over the coffee shop and now serves coffee from Colonna.

With its 130 seats, Cinema Union isn’t the biggest cinema in town, but it is one of the nicest to any self-respecting cinephile.
Before known as the Romanian Cinemateca, it sets itself as an institution of long tradition as In 1962 the National Film Archives held there their first event. Even if a couple of years later, the location changed, before finally settling down at Strada Ion Câmpineanu, Union’s philosophy remained the same: to reunite cinema lovers around the promotion of cinematographic culture.
For this reason, not only Cinema Union is part of Europas Cinemas, but they also take part in many types of movie festivals, such as One World Romania, NexT or Animest.

Established in 2002, Rocca is in a way a quality insurance when it comes to good food and good drinks. They do care about their food, as they often remind you that no dishes are prepared in advance. They keep it fresh and slowly cooked. Surprisingly enough, they offer quite a wide range of asian food, from Chinese to Thai, as much as some tasty Indian dishes. While this usually sounds like a warning signal, they actually nail it each time. Drink wise, next to the classics they offer a nice selection of local craft beers (Sikaru, Three Happy Brewers, Carol, Therapy...) and even make their own craft beers, with a total of 4 different kinds.
Finally, being fully covered, the terrace is actually as good when it's all warm and sunny as when it's pouring rain.

Dizainăr

Tired of the same old bars in the city? Need a change of scenery? Look no further than Lokal, a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of Bucharest. Located in the former home of the great actor Birlic, this place oozes vintage charm and a laid-back atmosphere. As you step inside, you'll be transported to a different era, surrounded by vintage and communist memorabilia.

But it's not just the decor that's enticing; the food and the friendly staff also do the trick. During the summer, you can enjoy your drinks and meals in the intimate and relaxed garden area.

If you're in the mood for something cozy, non-pretentious, and off the beaten path, Lokal is the place to be. It may be a bit difficult to find, but trust me, it's worth the effort. So why not shake things up and give Lokal a try? You won't be disappointed.

Opened in a area going through an active revivification, Consignatia 7 decided to set foot in Strada George Vraca, besieged by a recent invasion of specialty coffee shops and party places. Being one of the cutest second-hand around with a good curation on what they have to offer, a visit at Consignatia 7 fits perfectly in a lazy and sunny week-end afternoon, strolling around the streets neighboring the Parcul Cismigiu.

Friddi is more than an ice cream shop. I'll call it a gelato and sorbetto lab, where ice cream is produced on the spot, with fresh Romanian milk and cream, pistachios from Sicily, single origin chocolate from Africa or South America, and obviously fresh fruits.

The place is open from 8 am until midnight, which gives you the opportunity to get your gelato with specialty coffee from Origo for the early birds, and a glass of prosecco with your favourite cup of ice cream fo the ones desiring to have a nice evening out with friends.

Just a few blocks south of Ștefan cel Mare, Acuarela is a living, breathing piece of art in progress. If it is indeed a bistro with good craft beer, burgers and some vegan options, all its proceeds go to the artistic and cultural association Imbold that has its gallery in the main house (one that could very well be your grandma’s if she’d been to art school). The attic (or mansarda) is a super cozy hangout where you’ll sometimes catch a screening. The garden is where you’ll wanna hang out with your friends under Acuarela’s now-iconic skyline of coloured umbrellas. If it starts raining cats and dogs, you’ll hardly be protected. But that’s exactly the right time to grab the water colors and brushes you’ll find on the table and start being creative.

Sweet or salty? It can be a difficult choice in our everyday routine. Tartelicious will definitely not be a helper when you see how great is their selection of cakes and other quiches and pies. I usually enter in the shop thinking that I will buy one piece of cake and very often get out of the shop with at least two of their delicious products.

Let's start with a fun fact. You know how us French think we're so good at cooking simple but refined, and oh-so-delicate 'cuisine'. We've got this big baguette of an ego leading us to brag and boast about the balance of the tastes we lay on those pretty porcelain plates. Well one day I got to try Beautyfood. And it is beauty good. Obviously they have the classic burgers and all that, but since you asked me, my sweet spot is the salmon. This bad boy is chilling out there, having a ball with some salad leaves + rice (cooked juuuust right). I told you, it's simple, but it's fresh and delicious. If you'd like to go further in the fresh category, a good choice is always the 'menu du jour', limited edition of food-kisses and other butterflies in your belly. 
One last fun-fact since you really want to know this: when Mother comes to visit, she always eats here. And she knows about good food.

Why are people still going to McDonald's if they can go to Burger Van? Being french and addicted to tender and under-cooked meat, it took a little bit of time to adapt to the Romanian-style (stay safe, cook hard). And one day, after trying a burger here, I felt that finally someone had found the way to talk to my senses. Only downside is that I end up buying burgers at least once a week, if not more. Or is it a downside? In any case the menu remains simple, offering 6 different burgers always made with fresh ingredients. Still hesitating? Well, as they say: Yes... we're open. 

Burger Van Bistro

Have you ever tried Brazilian, Argentinian or Colombian cuisine? If not, Blue Margarita is to put on your to-do-list of places to eat ! You'll be able to try amazing dishes prepared by a passionate chef, who loves to share his passion of Latin-America through his dishes. If you're more familiar and willing to get some Mexican cuisine, just know that delicious burritos, chimichangas and tortillas are also on the menu. Y ahora, que aproveche!

Located on Calea Dorobanti, Dose Café belongs to two former sailors from Constanta, who fell in love with specialty coffee during their numerous trips all around the world. Open since a year and half, they remain loyal to their coffee provider, Caffenation, a roastery based in Antwerp, another harbor city, to give us a wink. Good coffee for sure, but also great service! Always smiling and willing to help, you will feel home by the time you open the door. The place is small, but very enjoyable for a coffee to drink in.

Nestled in the heart of Bucharest, ALERT studio is a small place with a big soul. If you find yourself in the city, you simply must stop by this contemporary art studio. Their latest exhibition, "Our Queer Home," offers a truly unique experience in Romania. Resale might be a small second-hand by it size, but it does host a nice selection of second-hand for those who are looking for something else than some more H&M copy-paste. Worth mentioning: they sell their items per kilogram.

Chiftelarie would make us think about a romanian restaurant preparing chiftele in a local way. But meatballs are actually something we can find everywhere on Earth, right? From Sweden to India, from the Armenia to Morocco, each country cook its meatballs in a specific way. This is what Chiftelarie is all about : bringing different ways to eat meatballs and plescavita in Bucharest.

While their meatballs are obviously tasty, they also pay attention to quality for their bread and side dishes. 

They have great lemonades and Zaganu beer on the menu if you're thirsty.
